Leaping on the bandwagon begun by the ingenious and sexamitous *TheCrowchan .There's the occasional upbeat song in there, but it's mostly drowned out by the SHEER ANGST. Niko's tendency to gravitate towards 3am misery ballads isn't helped much by the vast quantities of alcohol.
KEEP IN MIND: These are only the songs applicable to Niko when on his own, and Niko on his own is a sad little man. When hangin' out with Hunter or Josh, he gets much more upbeat songs. You can't conquer a small casino to the tune of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Y'sure Dschinghis Khan's "Moskau" wouldn't be a better fit than Boney M's "Rasputin?" They each have different kinds of disco style, but the German singers in Oriental clothing give "Moskau" a more foreign air. Or something. I'd somewhat understand if you didn't think so.

i love this for multiple reasons...first and foremost is that's a formidably awesome (yet deflating in some cases) soundtrack, but the picture itself is really powerful, especially having seen Niko much more animated and upbeat. The overwhelming use of blue adds to the 3 am misery...makes me sad for him, but it's a really great piece.

(It's such a lovely picture of him, too. It's sad, but just... the expression on his face and the way he's sprawled over like that and the way the props are scattered around and the lighting... it's just steeped in a mood, missus.)
And the music plays off of that, and the picture plays off the music, and it just... creates such an intense feeling of stubborn, faintly macho, melancholy with sparks of, "nyaaah, I'm gonna dance and you can't stop me".
Marvelously done, miss.

Niko's got a fair bit to be sad about - he's really upbeat in the company of Hunter, or his daughter, but otherwise it's easy to drag him down. Alcoholism does that to a man.
