Description
Here is just hatzegopteryx in more detail!
Im not an expert or any thing I just like to draw Azhdarchid to take all this with a grain of salt.
I used Mark Witton’s skeletal reconstruction of Hatzegopteryx to get the proportions kind of right.
Ive been calling this gut the “Sooty Azhdarchid” in my head. Also it doesn’t have to be hatzegopteryx I just used it as my primary reference.
I wanted to try to show off counter shading with this guy as I feel like it wold make sense with Hațeg having dry tropical forests.
I also wanted to give it a cool “hair do” I’ve had this idea for a wile, the “hair would help to hide and protect the crest. there are also glands that produce an oil that cleans the crest it also make the portion of the crest hidden but the “hair” super shiny and gives it a bright yellow color. During mating displays and territory disputes this Azhdarchid can flatten its “hair do” and show of its full crest there is also a lot of honking and that little pushup thing lizard do involved. Females have a much duller beak.
I like to give the long necked Azhdarchid rectangular pupils for some reason I think it looks good on them, and I feel like it would help them keep an eye on predators and pray. Tough if some one thinks this is stupid I can change it.
