Very cool dress! As usually Elysian has covered pretty much everything I would say about it.

Haute couture is the most exclusive title in the fashion world. The term can only be used by a elite number of fashion houses in Paris. YSL, Channel, Ralph Lauren etc are just some of the names that can claim the title.

Bascially every stitch of a garment is handsewn. The piece is also one of a kind usually commisioned by a specific person and designed for them. In order to keep the haute couture label the fashion houses must also put together 4 collections a year.

There are a bunch of other requirements in order to use the haute couture lable but I won't babble on. If you are interested in learning more I would recommend a book by Claire Shaffer called "Haute Couture Techniques". She goes over exactly what the difference is between couture and haute couture and then goes into the sewing techniques used in both.

Yeah, I know what it means...I just don't think the term should be used by wannabes like us. In France, it's actually copyrighted. I think one should be able to actually DO haute couture to be entitled to use the term. Anyway, I'll adapt )

Sorry your comment in the description threw me. Been kind of a long day. I agree with you totally. Couture is fine but haute couture is not a term that should just be thrown around.

Don't mind me... I'm a total dolt today

yeah, everyone's making haute couture nowadays...i think they mistake it for "extravagant"

This is a really nice design! I absolutely love the victorian feel to it and I think the way you placed and arranged the golden trim pulls it into the present and makes the piece more modern.
And I can absolutely see why your hand turned into claw with all those ruffles! But it sure paid off it looks great!
The color choice I love..I'm a sucker for purple and the gold just goes perfectly with it. To me personally the black corset feels a bit out of balance with the rest, maybe because the black doesn't repeat anywhere else..but that's just personal taste, I guess

I also have a really small nitpick...with a couture dress like this I think a more elaborate hairdo would have added something a bit more dramatic to the illustration..but as I said..it's only a minor nitpick

Still, a very stunning piece !

Thanks.
True about the hairdo, but I've got a thing with hair...I like it simple and healthy, so I don't have inspiration for fancy stuff. I should work on it though, but I don't really want to put time into couture, it's not my goal.
The hand-claw was from doing those little trims about 3-4 times and trying to get the lines as clean as possible )

You are very welcome!

I understand what you mean about the hair..it was just a thought from my side

And wow..3-4 times is a looot with all that detail! But it sure paid off!
