Description So over Christmas Break of 2006 I went to San Diego, California to visit my family. While I was there my girlfriend came out as well, and we both brought our pirate garb. Suffice it to say we had a hell of a time. I'll be putting up a whole series of pictures from that trip. What great fun.
One of the places we went was to the San Diego maritime museum, where is docked the HMS Surprise (formerly HMS Rose) from the film Master and Commander: Far Side of the World. Naturally, we couldn't resist taking the ship.

She used to be berthed in Bridgeport Connecticut in Black Rock Harbor when she was originally built and refurbished by Kaye Williams. I've been aboard her many times. Then she was touring and was used in a number of TV shows and films..including Master and Commander. I last saw her in Newport RI, and I guess now she has been sold, refurbished again, and renamed. and moved.
Nice photo.

Yeah, I know she's been at the San Diego Maritime Museum for a while now. Hey, do you know some of the other movies and TV shows she's been in? I'd be interested, myself.

She was also used in the most recent Pirates film, as Providence. But she was sunk by mermaids.

Indeed! I thought she was kind of shortchanged in that film, honestly. I would've liked to have seen her get a bit more action!

Believe me, us too. We filmed for a week, for only five minutes of screen time (if that). But that's Hollywood.

So who's "we"? Are you part of the crew? I always said that if I ever move back to San Diego I'd love to volunteer at the maritime museum and maybe learn to sale some of the beautiful tallships.

AHAH that's right by Anthony's Fish Grotto.

That is the coolest ship! They normally have 2 parked in there. Whenever people come out, that's the first place we take them.

Yep, I've got some other pictures from the Star of India as well, which is also right there, but I don't have them on this computer. I'll hopefully post them soon.
