Description
Another example of how different our vegetation is.This is a flooded area. Not a swamp, really. It is pretty small, less than a block. Like a small wood in the middle of the fields. I had to ask my husband to stop the car and walk among high weeds (I was almost expecting a snake bite or a spider on my legs).
But I just HAD to have this photo

Nicely done, M! I really like the green colors in this and the composition of it is really good.
I know what you mean when you just 'have' to get a certain shot A suggestion--like the first poster mentioned about the sky 'burn' would be to try to shoot with your back to the sun or up to 45 degrees left or right of the sun at your back. In this picture, I think the sun is 90 degrees on your right according to the shadows and highlights. It IS a good picture--don't get me wrong, I'm just suggesting to look at all angles of composition and if you have time, take several shots from different angles of the sun at different times of the day.
It looks like, according to your camera data time that this was shot around noon to 1 pm local time, so the sun is fairly high in the sky. This place will look vastly different in the late afternoon or early morning lighting wise. I'd love to see this shot sometime when the sunrise or sunset is really intensely colored--either one of those flaming red or gold sunsets, you know? The colors that would bring out would be ethereal!
I know sometimes it is just by chance that we find places to take shots. Like you and your husband driving along and you see this place. Go ahead and take the shot You might not get to come back--but, if you can go back...Do so when the light is different. You'll be amazed

Hi, John !
This is a picture I took in August, before I was on DA. Indeed, the sun was shining strong, and regretfully that was the only possible angle. You should see what I had to do to come that close
Rain boots (or fisher boots!) would have been needed to trespass the fence and I would also have been afraid of something eating me (just kidding, but then again, this place didnยดt look very friendly to walk around, who knows if I could be swallowed by the swamp)
But I absolutely get what you mean. Reddish sun colors would have given this small place a very different look.
I need to keep in mind, in future, what you say about using different sun angles for my shots. I normally just take one. The same I am starting to experience with shutter speeds, I could experience with light.
I hope I will be able to go there some day, again.
And then we will really see if I learned something !
Thanks for the time you took to teach me. It is always VERY appreciated !!
Smiles,
M.

You're welcome, M
It's a place to think about maybe for the future--maybe a place like it will present itself one day at the right time.
and I TOTALLY understand about things lurking in the swamp that might eat you

Mmm, summer.
The usual problem taking pictures in the sunshine is that the lightest parts 'burn' to the white, also the sky. It is just a bit too light, but it probably mirrors the day that was (:

Indeed, it was a sunny day. There was a fence that I couldnยดt pass... I just leaned on it to take the shot. It was very flooded to the right or left... I should have had rain boots
If I ever go back, I will try to change the shutter speed, or select early morning (and put boots on!)
The comments and critiques help me see things I didnยดt think of, thank you SO much !! That is how I can improve !
Smiles!
M.
