Description
Ugh he does have his white markings on his legs, I just drew his coat too light... oh well...I am actually really proud of this anatomy wise, as none of this was traced, just reffed. So yes... very proud. But it was just a quick bg as a space filler, didn't really want a spectacular bg, don't have time for them lol
Aithne training Yip for the Summer Dressage Show
Story
Previously: [link]
After turning out Shakil, Aithne headed to the stallion barn for her next task of the day. Phuckyes needed valuable training ready for the Summer Dressage Show. He had showed great potential so far, but he was nowhere near ready for the big show. The stallion was still big headed and pushy, and didn't like being told what to do, but he was finally starting to listen to Aithne. He had been worked in other areas too, such as cross country, but the woman really did think he had a talent for dressage. He may have been slightly stocky and not exactly elegant, but he had a good movement to him and he was incredibly intelligent.
The stallion was waiting at his door as she walked into the barn, dust dancing in the light shafts from the afternoon sun. It was warming up outside, but inside it was still cool. Some of the stallions had to stay in during such weather as they didn't particularly like the sun or agree with it, so the barn wasn't completely empty. Yip whickered lowly to her and shifted side to side as she approached, his ears perked forwards and his long forelock tumbling down over his eyes. He had a lot of hair, possibly too much, but Aithne refused to trim it. She loved her shaggy mustang too much to cut off his big personality trait. “Hey there, muffin,” she said as she rubbed his soft nose and smoothed out his forelock. “You ready to practice your moves, mm?” He snuffled at her pockets for treats and snorted gently as he was unsuccessful. All the horses checked in the hope that Aithne was doing clicker training that day and had a stash of carrot in her pockets. “Come on, then,” she said as she unhooked his head collar and let herself into his stable. He backed up away from the door and let her slip the head collar on before following her out of the stall and up the barn towards the tying rack, a large wooden beam propped up on two wooden posts with loops screwed into it to allow for easy tying up. The loops also had bailing twine tied to them, so the ropes could be fastened to this instead to allow horses to break off in case of emergency. Aithne tied Yip up and patted him on his muscular shoulder before heading to the tackroom. As usual, the room smelled of leather soap and musky horse, a somewhat welcoming smell for the woman. She quickly found Yip's tack and carried it out to him, along with his grooming kit. It didn't take her long to have him brushed down and tacked up ready for his training session. He looked smart in his new black tack and his fancy red saddle pad, the gleaming image of a horse if you ignored his long mane and tail.
The sun was bright and warm as the woman led the stallion over to the training ring. The ring had recently been raked and looked immaculate, just as she liked it. She never liked to see it looking untidy, as it was one of the first things guests saw when they visited the stables. The woman vaulted up lightly onto Yip's back and slipped her feet into the stirrups before asking him to walk forwards. He had a strong, forward gait as usual, settling against the bit and tucking his head in neatly as they marched around. The stallion had such a huge amount of power behind his gait, it was often hard to control him. Aithne was working on it, however, and she had finally managed to get him to collect his strides and tidy himself up. As she asked for trot, he surged forwards with long, purposeful strides, tugging at the bit now and then in an attempt to get control. Aithne gently kept her grip on him, half-halting him as he surged down the long side of the arena. She asked him to collect in the corner, and he threw his head up and protested, stepping sideways slightly before the woman got him under control and he finally collected his stride down the other side of the ring. After a few collection and extension exercises in trot, she asked him to canter. She prepared for the worst as she felt him buck gently and push forwards into a quick canter, bringing his head in neatly towards his chest. “Woah, boy,” she muttered as she tried to even out his gait. It took several attempts, but she eventually got him to steady up his canter and collect himself neatly around the ring, surging on into an extended canter when he was asked. The woman felt a small amount of pride as he performed so well. Maybe she would make a dressage horse of him yet.
