Description Messed around with Kenny the Axemans Trek Truck aka Retexturing. And built/kitbashed me a phaser turret. Then added one of my Caitians done up as a M.A.C.O. Pic didn't turn out too bad.

Thanks for looking

A vehicle this size really would be better off with tracks, or even hoverfans, etc.

Β I have to wonder if they'd still use weapons that can only be used by exposed personnel. Guess this was the only way to show off your Caitan in M.A.C.O. gear though.

Β I would have liked to see the name of the Federation class which goes with that registry (which is the U.S.S. Star Union).

Β Though I'm at least one of those people who aren't bothered by the fact it is ground based. Can't always depend on anti-gravity. Axeman did a pretty good job with designing her, and the transport that appears in Prometheus kinda reminds me of this much earlier design that came before it.

In the STNG movie Nemesis they used a dune buggy with Worf seated in a swivel seat using an exposed auto phaser . And that's 100 or so years later than ToSΒ
I also like to think there are worlds out there with strange environments that would prevent anti grav vehicles and transporters from working.
Axeman did an awesome job with its construction, I had to reqroup some materials so I could grunge up the textures.

Thanks for the faves

Β To be fair, the dune buggy is probably a light scout vehicle, and its design DOES kind of lend to being open, for ALL occupants. This design on the other hand is a sealed design. See the difference?

Β And yeah, I also agree that there would be worlds where anti-gravity either wouldn't work, or wouldn't be as effective, which in a combat situation would be a liability. The Essential Guide to Star Wars Vehicles mentions worlds where repulsorlift just doesn't work, hence the existence of walkers (specifically the AT-PT). I believe if such conditions exist in the Star Wars Galaxy, they'd also exist in the Milky Way.

Β And NP.

Wheels are still useful on colony worlds because every damn show and book ever made on the Trek universe showcases that making a colony world on said universe is about as dangerous as your average war.

Looks pretty good.

Yeppers even in the STNG movie Nemesis they still used wheels on the Argo sandΒ rail.Β

People hate "Nemesis" and the "Argo" sequence because allegedly it puts "Mad Max" on their "Trek".

Well, screw them. The movie probably had a ton of faults, but showcasing a damn sand buggy with a phaser cannon is not one of them. If anything, other shows and movies and even novels and comics have a bit of a fault in not determining what kind of ground vehicles are available on Starfleet (obviously because the plot and/or budget didn't had enough to fit them) and so the absurdly vocal geeks yell that only anti-gravity vehicles are available or people are teleported everywhere.

Like I said, man, I can see one or two designs still running around with wheels, either as stuff for dirt-poor citizens (because, c'mon, anti-gravity can't be as cheap as they like to believe that EVERY person on the planet can have access to it and no way they are teleported EVERYWHERE) or as vehicles for colonies (because, well, colony-making in Trek is HARD. Like, how many times are starships called to colonies to save the poor schmucks? Guess something that is tough as nails and still versatile is better than something high-tech that won't work when a phenomena affects the place).

I'd be surprised if the stuck up boys in the Federation's engineering section would concede to using such a "primitive" drive train when they could make it use anti-gravity that then would fail when any one of thousands of crazy space anomalies comes by and ruins everyone's day.

And then the guys with stone axes bash all their noggins in while they're trying to read a vernier.

But seriously, it's good picture. I like how you worked the aesthetics of the shuttlecraft into the design for the vehicle, giving it that thematic feel. Also love the wheels and the kill-o-matic phaser turret design that says to anyone that sees it that there is a right end and a wrong end to that weapon, and that you do not want to be on the wrong end.

OH GOD EWOKS!!!! game over man game over, our massive tanks and armor can't win!!! LOL
Other than shuttle craft, you don't see much in the way of small land transportation.
A primitive diesel and wheeled drive train would be the only thing moving if a massive EMP went off
Kenny the Axeman gets credit for the Vehicle, all I did was do some retexturing. I did mesh bash the turret though. I
like how it turned out

Ahh, I must've glossed over the proper credit in the description. Sorry, was kinda distracted just then.

And the axe thing was a reference to Starship Troopers (the BOOK), not Ewoks.

I'm sure though that anyone who wants to make an electric drive military vehicle would go to the extra lengths to harden it against EMP as well. Especially if you're in a futuristic universe where EVERYONE uses some kind of energy weapon.

Of course they go to all that trouble, and a guy with an RPG can still blow a wheel off.
