I really like how all the green is blurred and the red spot in the middle, the ladybug, is perfect focused! Very well captured Kathrin!

One of the very few pictures where I got dof and focus exactly the way I wanted them.
Thanks for the comment!

macro photos are really difficult to focus them as you want... but you allways do it
you're welcome!

Great shot. The DoF is fantastic and the colours work really well together, nature is just so darn helpful at times.

Yes, nature can be very helpful by offering such a perfect colour combination. And what's more, I only had to go to our backyard.

The contrast offered itself - I just had to snap away

Thanks a lot!
I experimented a bit here. First I went for my usual small aperture, but then I tried wider ones too, to get a narrower dof. I'm glad you like it!

Good one, these little buggers ain't that easy. You used a macro lense?
The first mistake of photos like these is to high aparture. Though it's hard because of the lighting sometimes.

marble911 In reply to Obliviou-S [2005-05-26 15:13:54 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I used the Sigma 105mm macro lens.
Getting aperture right can be quite tricky with macro. From a more scientific point of view, I want the dof to be as wide as possible so that the whole insect is sharp. Which means I have to use a small aperture and often flash, because natural light won't be sufficient. From a more artistic point of view, flashlight doesn't look nice at all, so I have to use a wider aperture, which means I can get fewer parts sharp...
It's a permanent tightrope walk.

I have to admit that ladybugs do get on my nerves sometimes. Everyone seems to be submitting pics of them (the insect section was full of them, in particular a few weeks ago...and most pictures of terrible quality). This one isn't the ordinary type of ladybug, though. I haven't identified it yet, but the red is a bit different, as well as shape and spot pattern.

Ansonsten...echt super Bild!

Lol, you're right, it didn't move all that much. Doesn't help much when the wind is moving the leaf it is sitting on in and out of focus all the time.
Thanks for commenting!

Well actually it's more like climbing a tree
Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked the selective focus. I spent quite some time trying to get it right, and I had some nasty wind against me...
