What I really like about this piece is that you didn't use hard lines to define the edges of the face and let your shading do the work for you. It makes it look like a little fox hiding in the foliage. Very nicely done!!!

I think all, or at least most, scanners don't like spiral notebooks and sketchbooks.

Well, thank you--you practice enough, you get pretty quick at sketching. There are artists who can do much better drawings than I in the same amount of time; an hour of sketching lets the final piece be looser and more fluid than if I'd spent several hours tightening it up, and I like that sometimes.

Yes, being able to sketch well is a good basis for 'real' art, and there are some phenomenal sketchers in the world who produce fantasic 'real' work.
