Description
Let me fall and get up. Let me make mistakes and learn from them. Let me grow. Let me become a better person. I know there are no directions, just let me walk forward. That's what I wish for.

Done for "I Dream" Contest, more info here: [link]
Backgrounds still resist me, and this one almost killed my patience, but well... if I don't practice I won't learn for sure ^^
Home-made texture, I followed this tutorial -> [link]
Oh, and I wouldn't try to find logic to that perspective XD

[Edit: adjusted contrast]

First of all, thank you, it's also the first time someone uses the Critique option in my work ^^
About the theme of "I Dream", it was pretty undefined. Quoting the organizers, it was about "What are your aspirations? Your fantasies? Your desires? What have you always wanted? How would reality be if it where as you would have it? What do you dream?". So I thought of it as "what do I wish for?". Presently, I am lucky enough to have all that I need, and it was difficult to find something I actually desire for. In the end, I realized that I wished most for a long life that lets me experience all kinds of precious moments. That's what this drawing is mainly about. However, I love it when other people get different ideas from it, with which the meaning behind this grows (:
I don't know if I explained myself well >w< Thanks a lot for taking your time to critique!

Whenever I dream, I always live in either a modified version of a place I've been, or it looks a lot like that.
I love the picture, it is amazing. I think it really displays what life is like, and it gives a sense of exploration, of what's out there or simply in ourselves.

"OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
...You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked.
A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose? How much can you win?
And IF you go in, should you turn left or right...
or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,
for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind...
...You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!..."
This is what you picture reminded me of --->[link]

it was mostly the pictures in the actual book that made me think of it. all the unusual signs and roads. But, then again, the poem WAS done by Dr. Seuss

Looks like Escher left behind a dreamworld scenario for the character. Composition, planes and tones are fantasticly fit. Really a amazing dreamscape!

This reminds me of Escher's work, but it definitely has it's own flair. The picture makes me crave to know what your character is walking towards - which kind of goes against the point of it.

If it's "a long way to go", wouldn't it make more sense if the person was facing the other way around?

marendins In reply to MarikBentusi [2011-11-06 10:46:49 +0000 UTC]
Well, the idea is precisely that although you may have already walked much, there are still a lot more of unknown things awaiting ahead of you. I wouldn't consider the "light" he is walking to as an end, but a misterious continuation of the journey (:
It's always up to points of view, I guess ^^
