“Hey Red have you ever felt lonely?”

You held onto the fence like divider that separated the snowy forest and the cave. Some ice type pokémon were wandering around and others were scaring some trainers passing by. You smiled at their attempts to “play” with the trainers. The unsuspecting trainer didn’t expect a pokémon to walk right up to them. Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt a warm hand rest on yours.

“No I haven’t” he whispered.

You looked up at him surprisingly before looking back at the forest. The last time he spoke to you was last week.

‘It’s rare to hear his voice’ you mused.

You took one more glance at the forest before turning to face Red. He was still looking at the snow covered trees, lost in thought. He was thinking about the past.

His proud eleven year old self stepped out of the cozy small house to begin a journey to become a pokémon master. Indeed he had become one… in only two years. His journey had ended a few years later and he decided to live on the snowy mountain. He wasn’t separating himself from mankind; rather he was training his pokémon and himself.

You suddenly thought about when you were younger, perhaps around ten? You always wanted to climb that huge snowy mountain. Your mother scolded you and explained that it was freezing and that no one would even survive up there. You decided to prove to your mother that when you turn 14, you’ll climb it and survive there for a month. She was outraged at the beginning. But when you called and mailed her pictures of Red and yourself sitting next to each other on the snowy ground. She was surprised and shocked. You laughed a bit, reminiscing the past.

A month had passed and you decided to stick with Red for another week. The week became a few weeks, a month, a few months, and then years.

Red averted his gaze from the forest and looked at you. He rubbed his thumb on your hand, questioning your laughter.

“I was thinking about the past,” you said. “…the day I met you.”

Red nodded and gave you a soft smile. The corners of his mouth lifted up just slightly. He remembered your cheeky grin as you threw a snow ball at the back of his head. What was his first impression? Oh right! He glared at you and threw a snowball back at your unsuspecting figure. You heard something whizzing towards you at a great speed and you immediately turned around. Before you knew it, you fell backwards from the impact. And so the snow ball fight started. (y/n) vs. Red—one on one battle with no substitutions.

It turns out that you thought he was a pokémon. He was covered in snow and you wanted to help that ‘pokemon’ make itself into a ‘snowmon’. After some apologies and endless laughter, he finally accepted your apology.

Red thought you were weird. Really weird.

You ended up becoming his weird acquaintance. As time passed you became his weird friend…and then weird girl friend. How did this all happen? The answer is simple.

It only took one snow ball.
