Description Well, here's another movie torture more for Chase-chan and the Bots, at the Satellite of Love...

This time, it's turn of Godzilla, the infamous 1998 film directed by Roland Emmerich, starring Jean Reno, Matthew Broderick, Maria Pitillo, Hank Azaria, Kevin Dunn, Michael Lerner, and Harry Shearer (ah, even Moe Szyslak and Mr. Burns starred there...!), as an attempt of reimaginating the original 1954 masterpiece by Inoshiro Honda. Following the French atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific, an unknown creature is spotted passing eastward through the Panama Canal. Scientist Niko Tatopolous is called in to investigate the matter, and he quickly arrives at the conclusion that a giant, irradiated lizard has been created by the explosions. The monster, which's later named as Godzilla, then makes its way north, landing at Manhattan to begin wreaking havoc in the big city. Even with the combined forces of the U.S. military to fight the monster, maybe this couldn't be enough to save the people of New York.

Well...Well...Well...Everybody knows that Godzilla is one of the most iconic movie characters ever. The Heisei Era of Godzilla was for me, where he had his best moments, which involved conflicts with new monsters (Biollante, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Battra, SpaceGodzilla, and Destoroyah) and classic ones reinvented (King Ghidorah, Mothra, MechaGodzilla); the events of Godzilla VII: Godzilla VS Destoroyah (1995) (or as I prefer naming: Godzilla VII: The Destructive Demon Destoroyah) marked a sad ending for the Heisei Series and maybe for the Godzilla series (as I heard, Toho planned a hiatus until 1995), due to one reason: Godzilla...Dies...; the reason about this was due to TriStar planned an American Godzilla Trilogy until 2003. For this movie, TriStar put in charge to Roland Emmerich (maybe due to his work on Independence Day (1996)); the result, was a sin...The story, for starter, isn't a metaphore to the atomic bomb like the original story by Inoshiro Honda, to the point of lacking of suspense, and with an uninvincible monster who neither ressembles Godzilla; aside, the characters are very idiotic and overacted, to the point of being somewhat similar to the typical American cliches and stereotypes, and later, I think the idea of involving Godzilla's offsprings, I think it was like extracted from Jurassic Park (1993), but with a touch of Independence Day (1998). It's not surprise why the fans disliked this film, to the point of cancelling the proposed sequels (whose ideas will be later used in an animated series (which was much better)), and forcing Toho putting active the productions of films (with Godzilla 2000: Millenium (1999)). And, about a decent American Godzilla movie, there'll not be one, until 2014, thanks to Garrett Edwards (which'll have sequels (the 2nd involving King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan; and the 3rd one involving King Kong!).
Well, as an attempt of reimaginating the iconical King Of The Monsters, they screwed it...However, by another side, I found it somewhat good, despite their idiotic characters (at least the 3 main ones will be better in the animated series...) and not-so-invincible monster (altought the OST and songs aren't bad); so, this movie is So-Bad, But-So-Good (altought not at the same level of Godzilla VS Megalon (1973)), but much better than Godzilla, Minilla, Gabara: All Monsters Attack! (1969; why, Inoshiro Honda? Why?) (coming soon, a riffing/rant for this film)).
In the original MST3K series, two of his moves received a riffing (Godzilla, Ebirah, Mothra: Great Duel In The Southern Seas (1966); Godzilla VS Megalon (1973)); however, I think this movie must receive a riffing. originally, a fan made a riffing to this movie; hwoever, here's my own version.

So, now, I'm torturing with this film to Chasey-chan and the Bots. However, now, the torture isn't a rage-causing like previous times, despite our heroes aren't pleased with the results...The special guests of today are Miki Saegusa (the human main heroine in the Godzilla Heisei Series; who's even complaining about what TriStar and Emmerich done after Godzilla's meltdown in Godzilla VII: Godzilla VS Destoroyah; and she's right...), Super Mario, and my OCs Mario Satoshi Matsumaru-kun, Demian Jeremy Evergreen, Kevin Neumeier, Claudia Miner, Sakura Ichimonji Ikari, Hayato Ishizaka, and Christina Quatermaine. Nobody of them is pleased with the results of tims film...

As I said you, as an attempt of reimaginating the iconical King Of The Monsters, they screwed it...However, by another side, I found it somewhat funny, despite their idiotic characters and not-so-invincible monster (altought the OST and songs aren't bad); so, this movie is So-Bad, But-So-Good (altought not at the same level of Godzilla VS Megalon (1973)), but much better than Godzilla, Minilla, Gabara: All Monsters Attack! (1969; why, Inoshiro Honda? Why?) (coming soon, a riffing/rant for this film)). Frankly, I reccommend it to you for passing a rainy afternoon with your friends, no matter if you don't expect too much; altoguht, frankly, I prefer more Emmerich's Godzilla than Dragon Ball Evolution...!

Comment, please.

(P.S.1: BTW, the monster from this movie (which'll be named by Toho as Zilla (altought I prefer naming it as Gigantis (in reference to the infamous title for the American release of Godzilla's Counterattack (1955): Gigantis The Fire Monster))), will be referenced in "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack!" (2001; directed by Shusuke Kaneko) as a monster which attacked New York in 1998, and was confused by the American Government as Godzilla, altought Japanese Government negates this. Later, this monster will be controlled by the Xiliens, for lating fighting Godzilla at Sydney in Godzilla: Final Wars (2004; directed by Ryuhei Kitamura). Today, this monster has some aceptation in the fandom...)

(P.S.2: Noticed Kevin asked about a man named Raymond Burr? Well, he was an actor (1917-1993); he portrayed the journalist Steve Martin (nothing to do with the actor) in the americanizations of Gojira (Inoshiro Honda's Godzilla(1954)) and Godzilla (1984; directed by Koji Hashimoto), which were Godzilla: King Of The Monsters! (1956) and Godzilla 1985 (1985), respectively.)

Por cierto, Zilla se parece al cocodrilo de los Simpsons: vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/s…

Y aparte, débil...

Menos mal que Garrett Edwards sí le dio el homenaje que se merece...
