Description so this is one of the many designs i came up with for issues 22 and 23 of transformers ongoing.
originally the character was called swingarm, but was changed later to springarm.
this is one of the 2 bike twins that help police an area on cybertron along side orion pax.
he had a twin brother named wheelarch who is basically the same design with only a few minor tweaks to the head and a different colour palette
this was probably one of my favourite designs to work on, and i know i thought the idea of them turning into bikes that optimus or orion would ride was pretty cool. then James had to kill them oh well, there were fun for as long as they lasted.

they have the same alt mode, so they are regular bikes on there own, but can modify for another bot to ride them.
i'll post the alt mode soon

this and other designs can been found the the Transformers: Alex Milne sketchbook

enjoy

I like the wheel over the ass design.

I hate it when the wheels are split in half etc...and too many characters have'em in their legs. So the design is a nice departure from the norm as far as I can tell.

You rock

looks great. the wheel on his butt takes a bit getting used to, but overall it's great!
coming up with so many different designs is tricky anyway with all those wheels and appendages.

markerguru In reply to SplitTheSky [2011-08-17 23:31:22 +0000 UTC]

the wheel isn't technically on his butt, it's part of his back and hangs in that area. but it's not attached there.
it can be sometimes hard to come up with something that i would like to see, but then there are time when it's not hard at all

hmm, i know about the sketchbook that came out or will come out soon, but are you ever going to release a real artbook?
"the art of transformers" maybe?
because that would be awesome. your drawing style is very detailed and creative, i would love to read a bit about your way of drawing and designing. even if it was just along the lines of "i put this there because it looked good!" or "this is inspired by a toaster!" - it would still be interesting to read imo! you can actually learn a lot by just closely looking at a drawing and recreating the possible thought-process of the artist

i have a feeling that i've already asked something like that sometime... sry if i'm repeating myself. i really can't remember right now.

PS: are there any books you'd recommend for learning about how to draw robots, weapons and technical stuff?

there is a book that IDW put out a while ago called the art of IDW's transformers. it was basically a book that had a bunch of pictures from all the artist that worked on transformers at IDW up until that point. it's pretty old, so i think a new one would be in order. i wish they would make a new one

i just googled that and i'd rather have a book with a better rating. ^^"
there aren't any books on how to draw machines at all?

You know... I wouldn't mind seeing them pop up in one of the toylines... I mean, they'd even use the same base mold, already saving Hasbro the trouble of making a headswap-and-repaint character!

So they are (was) twins ?! Looks like that there are quite more twins in the Transformers universe than we thought...Shame that they had to die. I liked them and they had a very nice design/color sheme.
