Description
so this is one of the many designs i came up with for issues 22 and 23 of transformers ongoing.originally the character was called swingarm, but was changed later to springarm.
this is one of the 2 bike twins that help police an area on cybertron along side orion pax.
he had a twin brother named wheelarch who is basically the same design with only a few minor tweaks to the head and a different colour palette
this was probably one of my favourite designs to work on, and i know i thought the idea of them turning into bikes that optimus or orion would ride was pretty cool. then James had to kill them
they have the same alt mode, so they are regular bikes on there own, but can modify for another bot to ride them.
i'll post the alt mode soon
this and other designs can been found the the Transformers: Alex Milne sketchbook
enjoy

His design (especially the wheel placements) remind me of Armada Sideways.

Eh, not bad! I find the rear tire a little weird, normally I like them around the arms or something.

yeah. but i wanted a more slender design and wheels around the arms would have made him too wide IMO

eh...I suppose so. Or you could put them as a knee sort of thing, eh whatever. I like it like this way now.

the bike to bot size conversion has always slightly puzzled me, do you think of them as larger than earth model motorcycles or smaller bots? somebody mentioned the gestalt concept which i can see helping balance size issues. Are you going to color the alt mode picture?? I would love to see it & those are some interesting flashy fatty tires!

Very cool design but all I can think of with bots riding bots is the ambiguously gay duo.

I always love motorbike bots. I guess its mainly cause one of my first tf toys ever was G2 Roadpig. XD
My figure however was named Roadhog on the box for some reason, so I still call him that. Sounds better in my opinion but I digress.
Motorcycle transformers are always awesome.

He looks great! Though I've never read the comics before because they're rarely released here in Australia, I'll bet this guy is really awsome. It's a shame they had to die, I think it would've been awsome if there were short stories about them.

I thought it was at once really fantastic and "Something Optimus Would Do," and at the same time rather grisly that "Oh, man, he's REALLY going to do it!" when Orion/Optimus transformed Springarm's corpse to bust out of the dry-gulch he'd gotten into, honestly. It was a really great way of showing "he can think on his feet" (one of the qualities that's always made him a good leader).
I personally loved the designs. I wish they'd stayed around for longer!

thanks. i'd have liked it if they were around longer, but James had other plans for them, and they were avenged by optimus/orion

I admit I'm not entirely too keen on the heavy implications running through this story arc that Optimus was never "chosen" by The Matrix, because that goes against pretty much every aspect of his character - but it's his arc, not mine, so I'll just have to trust that he's going somewhere with it that'll be good.
Despite that, though, I am really digging on what's coming out of this line, and I'm really appreciating the work you're doing on it. Do please keep it up.
(Now... how do I get a job writing there... Must plot my rise to power! >.> )
π: 0 β©: 1
markerguru In reply to jemstone [2011-08-18 17:28:33 +0000 UTC]
not sure how to get a job writing. guess you'll just have to send in submissions to places
as for the implications with optimus, i don't read it as that. i believe that he is ment to be prime. he has all the right qualities of a prime. i think that it comes down to he was a good person and when he was given the matrix, all the bad stuff that happened with the other primes who had it, all that knowledge of what they have done, caused pain. i see it as if your a real leader, then you will have a great responsibility that will be placed on you, and to make sure that your really ready to accept that, to accept what will come, and what you will have to do, and to make sure your the right person for the job, the matrix tests you but inflecting some sort of pain. if you give it away right away due to the pain, then your not the right bot for the job. if you accept it and all that comes with it, then you are. but who knows what James has in mind for it. this is just how i read it. i may be wrong, but thats my take on it

jemstone In reply to markerguru [2011-08-18 17:38:37 +0000 UTC]
I like your take a lot better than mine, honestly. I was just noting the pretty heavy implications of the whole "Hot Rod felt no pain when joining with it" thing.
And y'know... I'd send in more submissions if the various comic companies didn't have a "no submissions" rule. It's sort of a catch 22 - they want new talent, but the new talent can't submit anything. So the new talent can't get hired, and the companies end up going with the same dozen writers over and over.
Makes no sense, I tells ya.

There was already a triple changer named springer,
and that back tire might get turn up in battle, unless its made from a dif material lol.

π: 0 β©: 1
markerguru In reply to Tiberius47 [2011-08-18 04:08:34 +0000 UTC]
it's designed it rotate when he needs to sit, but he's more of a standing kind of bot to begin with. but the whole lower wheel can move around, it can angle in closer body, or further out.

Tiberius47 In reply to markerguru [2011-08-18 07:53:06 +0000 UTC]
Maybe if it was rotated up so it looked more like a backpack or something...

markerguru In reply to Tiberius47 [2011-08-18 17:30:01 +0000 UTC]
maybe, but then he becomes super back heavy. where it's positioned now balances out the weight more evenly.
