Description
‘Consider Phlebas 2’ is a digital update of my previous, traditionally painted artwork; see: fav.me/d2ltdch . The bulk of this new piece was largely created using Cinema4D, with extensive overpainting in Photoshop.
I have to say that I was not attempting to create a slavish reproduction of my original image, which was made almost 20 years ago! Things have moved on since then....
The image is based on a scene from the superb Iain M. Banks Sci-Fi novel ‘Consider Phlebas’ :
Hurriedly leaving ‘Vavatch Orbital’ – a million mile diameter, landscaped, free-floating space habitat - ‘Kraiklyn’s Free Company’, aboard their ship the ‘Clear Air Turbulence’, or ‘CAT’, have just hastily
abandoned the nearby, humungous GSV (General Systems Vehicle) ‘The Ends of Invention’, where they had stopped off to conduct some nefarious activity; alas, things did not quite go to plan....
A larger, zoomable version can be viewed on ArtStation at: www.artstation.com/artwork/xzr…
06/08/19: Just saw that this one makes my 9th Daily Deviation!
My thanks to Cosmicbound for featuring it, and to all of you who Fave it!

Looking at both this and the original, is it safe to presume you as well are quite the enthusiast of classic Boston? Or at least, of their covers?

I loved Boston back in the day - still do! Don't quite see the connection though; maybe the colour scheme?
Thanks!

The ship looks quite a bit similar to Boston's famed interplanetary Fender Stratocaster -.o One of their most celebrated cover staples.
Know it can be a touchy subject comparing specifics, but trust it can only mean praise when favourably compared alongside the best.

Including the Kzinti stories, thrilled me to no end that Star Trek: The Animated series adapted one of his stories AND brought the Kzin into Federation lore!

I´m aware, but you cannot deny TheYamiks fantastic "Ship review"
Also, your pic looks great, ship is cool and the background aweinspiring.
That novel, is this where Bungie got the whole Halo idea from or just coincidence?
