Description The F-100 Super Sabre was the world's first production aircraft capable of exceeding the speed of sound in level flight. The F-100C model was first adopted by the USAF Thunderbirds in 1956 becoming the world’s first supersonic aerial demonstration team. The Thundebirds flew 6 shows with the F-105B Thunderchief in 1964 but transitioned to the F-100D Super Sabre after an unfortunate accident. The F-100D was used until 1969. I have long wanted to paint the Thunderbird's Super Sabres. I first read Martin Caidin's excellent book "Thunderbirds" in the 1970s. From that point on I was hooked. My artwork shows the team flying the F-100D Super Sabre over Hoover Dam in 1966.

Prints of all my work are available through my website: www.markkarvon.com.

Catches an age of confident possibilities, of problems solved with raw power...Β  Very formidable plane.

The National guard unit at Kirtland AFB used to fly the F-100 Super Saber. They have one on a stick out near the old fighter hangers. All chrome with a yellow pinstripe.

Nice painting... but why has #4 a dark rudder? I also saw that on photos on the web but have no explanation... Β perhaps the reactor exhaust of #1?

Thanks. yes, it is due to the exhaust of the lead airplane.
