I don't sell this particular sculpture. It was part of a line of sculptures I did called Ebony Visions.
These were produced by another company as painted resign figurines.Β
i was just the sculptor on the line.

This is a true work of art. Thank you for it. It inspires me to write a creature into my story with similar description as your Sentinel.

hello MarkNewman
my name is Mauricio i am Brazilian and I'm big fan of
fantastic work ... I think I would first apologize
by my english.rsrs
Man how long on average it takes you to complete a figure, for
example of this sentinel? and how you learned to make these sculptures?
I'm fanatic for statues but I have no great skill and
knowledge. There is some progress?

You are an insanely good sculptor. That's one art that I've had a deep respect for the ones who could do it well, and you, sir, are without a doubt one of those. To be able to create something that looks correct from every conceivable direction is a mind boggling and, for me, an overwhelming concept. I just can't imagine being able to do that, even with references.

Now that I've buttered you up real good (, jk), would it be cool if I attempt to color this guy and/or put him in a montage? It's mighty cool looking as is, but it's just begging to be put into some wild scene. If not, that's cool, but it sure would be fun. I may not get around to it for quite some time, but I'd definitely like to do something with it.

Bravo, man.

Trying to figure how to make cermaic molds for a lot of different things has been a rack in my brain lately. Just out of curiousty, could a sculpture like this be cast for mass production?(small run) I was just thinkinng the placement of the arms could really create major problems for that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkNewman In reply to Butch007 [2007-07-21 17:31:14 +0000 UTC]

This sculpture was mass produced. It's part of a line of figurines called Ebony Visions.
I made the original sculpture so it comes apart in pieces for the molding and casting process.
The arms come off. The arm bands hide the seam lines.
The head comes off. His necklace hides the seam lines
The wings are separate as well.
They are all cast separately and then put together and painted.

Butch007 In reply to MarkNewman [2007-07-21 20:05:28 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhhh...So that's how it's done. Sweet! The more I learn about modeling/sculpting digitally the more I want to immerse my myself in the traditional process. Man..I was like trying figure how it possibly be molded and cast as one piece. I knew I'd seen the statue before, but I didn't remember whether the arms were posed differently. I'm curious have you ever done any full body anatomy moquettes? One of these days I'd love to be able to afford a nice sized man, woman, child and probably Hulk antomy moquette. Oh is the Hulk sculpt you did most recently a commision that's getting mass produced by someone?
