Description
Novembers submission and monthly winner for drawing challenge. Reference is of the DD rawV by GretaTu reference gretatu.deviantart.com/art/raw⦠Graphite pencil on A3 format Bristol Velum.
Tried indenting here ... maybe i won't do that again.
Updated Feb 2015 with a larger file.

Wow that's amazing! I'm drawing this reference too and I still don't know how I'll draw the tricky scarf. I've been looking at yours for a moment now and I'm still clueless how you managed to pull this off...great job!

Thank you, the scarf was a little tricky but adding plenty of white in there helped and i indented some lines in there to help give it a little texture helped with the illusion. I used a 6B lightly over it and lifted the graphite back off with some blutack

Yeah I tought about embossing the paper too. Thanks for the advice I'll probably use it to soften the lines afterwards.

From the light breaking through the clouds leading to the amazingly rendered hair, the texture of the skin, and finally finishing with that scarf!

Fantastic work and the utmost kudos for attacking that shoal - I looked at this and loved the portrait - but when I looked at the lace head shoal, I thought to myself - 'nah, it would drive me mad' - so lots of praise for trying and succeeding perfectly - great work Mark. Β

Thanks Paul and yes it drove me mad. I'm not happy with it at al but the illusion works. i will approach the rendering of this type of material in a different way next time and hopefully i will be one step closer to understanding how to plan it out better in future.
