He did a pretty good job breaking down the plot. It's bot a bad review, but he focuses just a bit too much on the bad stuff, doesn't harp on the narrator enough, harps on Edmond too much (he's just a little kid), and he also didn't understand that the final product is actually a shadow of the original vision Don Bluth had. Classic case of executive meddling ruining a perfectly good concept.

Do they really have to sing everything? Just because it's a musical doesn't mean you have to sing. You could just quietly shut the fuck up. I would prefer that. But thank God our heroes arrive to put that all-bird choir in its place.

The movie wasnt about Gezora, i hate that movie for other reasons (mainly the fact that the movie focuses more on the human story and spens less time with the monsters)

RobloSamus In reply to horaciosi [2012-11-13 01:16:34 +0000 UTC]
I know it wasn't about Gezora, and the fact that it focused more on the human story WAS a problem.

Ryan-of-Rapture [2011-08-03 23:32:46 +0000 UTC]
FACT OF NO REAL IMPORTANCE: The name Chanticleer comes from a fable called "Chanticleer and the Fox". In the story the fox compliments Chanticleer on his voice so he will let down his guard. When he does he snatches the rooster between his teeth (somehow not killing it) and runs away. Chanticleer compliments the Fox on his cunning and suggests he should mock his pursuers. The Fox does so and Chanticleer escapes. Both learn that being to vain or gullible is a dangerous thing. What does this have to do with the movie? FUCK ALL. This has been your FACT OF NO REAL IMPORTANCE.

I saw this movie after the review, and I felt there was so much he left out.
I enjoyed the voice actors and the cast selected. Say what you will about the Grand Duke of Owls, but Christopher Plummer threw out a MAGNIFICENT voice for the character. Phil Harris from Jungle Book and Aristocats as the Dog. I love him to death, and his character is pretty decent, but he NEVER SHUTS UP. There's a time and place for narration, and he uses them all. It kinda looks bad when you cock-block some kids mother to tell the story. Eddie Deezen...Mandark, for crap's sake. That's pretty much the punchline, too. And, of course, Ellen Greene playing the exact same role as she did in Little Shop of Horrors. A dumb blonde with a Princess Peach voice.
And there's a massive plot hole where he mentions the Duke's breath. He's baking in front of an open furnace, a bright one, mind you, despite being scared of light. And he gives the dwarf owl sunglasses to brave the city lights. Why doesn't he use that to just go ape shit on the farm animals instead of waiting for their batteries to dies? (Tweedly Dee leads to stating that, are you fucking shitting me?)
Anywho, that's my rant on the movie.

I didn't see Rock-a-Doodle. But I don't really want to watch it because it has that annoying little kid as the main character. This was one of my favorite reviews from NC. Some of my favorite NC lines are in it.
"(mocking the annoying little kid) No kid, that's not how you act. For the hundredth time: emote, connect, and be credible."
"God, just by the way they're walking I can tell they're going to sing."
"Okay, no song that begins with the lyric 'Tweedley-Dee' is going to be good. Go back and try again!"
"God this kid makes Jake Lloyd look like Haley Joel Osmand!"

"Haha! I'm going to waste all their minutes! Mwahahahahaha!"
"She kissed him on the pecker. Next scene."
"It's like they're ashamed they made a musical. WELL, THEY SHOULD BE!"
"βͺWe are the creatures of the night!βͺ"Β "THESE ARE THE GAYEST VILLAINS EVER!!!Β Do they really have to sing everything? Just because it's a musical doesn't mean you have to sing. You could just quietly shut the fuck up. I would prefer that."
"Auntie Em! Auntie Em! It's a cwappy movie! It's a cwappy movie!"
"God hears you, Chanticleer. I didn't mean to put the rotation of the planets out of order. I was just fucking with you!"
"He was a little boy!" "He was such a bad actor I couldn't tell."
"I'd say this ending was ripping off The Wizard of Oz, but it isn't. It's directly stealing from it, right down to everything becoming brown and white."

The funny thing about that kid was in the original trailers his voice was dubbed over, according to TV Tropes. Apparently the studio marketing department believed that hearing Edmond talk would NOT entice too many people to see the film.

maxvision92 In reply to JimCarreyDude19 [2011-10-14 17:53:53 +0000 UTC]
Wait, what? They already dubbed everyone over for the US release, why redub Doogal again? No wonder it tanked. At least now that it's forgotten, The Magic Roundabout might have SOME chance of making it to the US television screens unaltered.
And speaking of the redubbing, the UK version of that Magic Roundabout movie had Tom Baker as the villain. I shudder to think who might have replaced him for us dumbass Americans.
And why can't anyone from the Daily Show ever be in a good movie? John Stewart was in that, and Evan Almighty, and Death To Smoochy, John Oliver and Stephen Colbert were in The Love Guru, Aasif Mandvi was in that horrible Last Airbender film; the only good movies anyone from that show was in were Spiderman 2 and The Hangover.

I didn't see the UK version, but I'm sure it's better than the American dub.
Jon Stewart was the bad guy in the American dub.
Yeah, that does suck, they're funny people.

It has to be, anything's better than what we did to it.
Wait, what? Jon was the BAD GUY?! C'mon, I know he's a great guy and all, but this is freakin' Doctor Who himself, and the bad guy from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and he played Rasputin once as well! There's no way Jon Stewart could ever even hope to be a patch on Tom Baker.
It's a terrible waste of talent.

Gnorga's song in A Troll in Central Park not only makes Andrew Lloyd Webber sound original, it also makes the lyrics of Tim Rice, Howard Ashman and Stephen Schwartz COMBINED read like the poetry of Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
