Description
Possibly the only way to make a red panda more adorable is to mix it with a ferret. 10/10 art design avatar team.I honestly can't imagine Korra actually being okay with being Tf'd into an adorable fluffball. I like to think she just needed a day off from avatar duties; what better way then to transform into a little fire ferret? Nearly anything soft becomes a massive bed!

Hey sorry for taking so long to get on track with talking about these images! First of all, lovely to see you try out some female transformation and Korra is always great to see transformed. I'm gonna be making a couple of assumptions for this critique, no offense meant with any of it, if I assume anything incorrectly please correct me
I'm not totally sure how much of these images was reference and how much was traced. I feel like the general jest of the ferret looks alright, but there are a couple things that seem off to me. Especially since fire ferrets possess a very slender body small things that stand out can really stick out. Generally the ferret's whole body seems like a whole, but in this case the individual parts still seem very individual. I feel like you aren't fully thinking about the anatomy underlying the body, which is why I'm wondering if you referenced this or traced this image. Anatomy in general is a tricky topic, which can require a long time to master, especially when involving fantasy creatures.
Elaborating a bit more on that, for example, her hind legs. Her left hind leg is looking like it's in movement, so she'd be moving. Her right hind leg though is in a standing position. From this it's not very clear if she's just standing in place or moving/walking at the moment. Small things like this can really add up and make a picture seem disjointed.
I think you did a good job with capturing the colors and doing the fur patterns.
One thing that seems a bit off to me as well is the colored lineart around her hair. Both colored and non-colored linearts can work very well, but in this case the whole of the lineart is non-colored, except for her hair. This makes the hair really stand out and since this is pretty much the only Korra-part in the image it makes it feel even more disjointed. I'd recommend either going for fully colored lineart, so adjust all of the lines to the colors that are close to them, or leave them all black. Choices like that should generally be consistent throughout the image.
I hope you don't mind the general negative vibe of this little critique. I've focussed mostly on improvements you could make, since that was generally what you asked for in the original comment you made. I do like these images you did and I hope you'll continue to make more and improve further!

Not at all! It's really sweet of you to take the time.
I tend to draw the skeleton and general shapes while doing my sketches; for this one I worked from a few references of Pabu and a few of real-life pictures of ferrets. I avoid tracing and freehand since I'm pretty bad at it to begin with and I like to be able to tweak poses or draw entirely new poses which I don't think is very possible if you're tracing. I think the individual feel of this is likely due to the fact that I used different reference images for different parts of her body since I wanted to draw a new pose instead of only using a single pose as reference from the show. I tend to have trouble seeing where things connect and how they would rotate or move, I've been doing pure anatomy practice of the human body lately so I can try and understand how muscles and skeletons connect and react in a general sense.
The intention was to have her doing a smug, little strut which is why her leg is kicked backwards like that. Conveying movement is definitely a weak spot for me and something I really want to improve on since I plan on doing comics once I get speedier and more efficient at drawing. I suppose the issue is that the legs that she's standing on look like they're holding the same amount of weight as they normally would if she was stationary on all four. I've been told that being more loose with my sketch is a way to improve the conveyance of movement.
Ink-dropper+Swatches are my friend.
Colouring the linework was something I was very new with at this point and am still trying to find a way to do it efficiently. My reasoning for doing it was that it was hard to show detail in hair that was especially dark since the lines would blend with the colouring of her hair. I'm working on an Asami tf right now so I think I will definitely experiment with making the entire linework coloured as opposed to only the regions which would be coloured with dark colours.
I would be upset if this wasn't mainly negative, that's the only way I can improve! There's no sense sitting around and talking about what I'm good at 'cause then I won't see my flaws and improve them
I certainly will keep working at it, I doodled in high school infrequently but I always wanted to get good at drawing. A lack of natural talent and an extreme lack of self-confidence stopped me but I won't let that happen again! Besides, talent is for people who don't want to put the work in.

Well, it's good to see that you've got the right spirit to get straight into it. Talent is way overrated, so just putting in the work is a great plan to get better.
Properly conveying movement is very tricky and it's something I struggle with myself very often, so I don't have much tips for you in that regard. Doing regular gesture drawings can really help you improve in loose sketching and gesture is an important part of capturing movement. If you have the time just doing a couple minutes of quick gesture drawings every day can really help you improve in the long run.
And of course the anatomy is just something that slowly adds up overtime, which is why I felt a bit bad about bringing it up, though it's a major part to be focussing on as you improve.
I'm very eager to see what you're doing with Asami; honestly I like her even more than Korra!
