Description
As the largest vessels of their time, the ancient exploration vessels of the Centauri Republic represented both the ambition and military mandate of the early Centauri Pioneers, who went out to conquer and cultivate the stars. Although the primary purpose of the Explorer class was of scientific nature, mapping and probing distant worlds, it always carried a complement of republican soldiers and armed auxiliary craft, to meet any unknown civilization and danger with appropiate force. As they often met less technologically advanced peoples, the Explorer vessels were thus come to be known as mighty battleships in some parts of the galaxy. They established much of the later Centauri Doctrine of shock and awe, appearing more powerful than they actually were.
