Description
During the Dilgar War, EarthForce learned a vital lesson: This new era of war, fought on a scale and with technologies like none other before, required the armed forces to be as large and concentrated as they had been during the 20th century, while at the same time retaining the high independence of individual units which had dominated warfare in subsequent centuries on Earth.
To achieve a viable balance between command control and independence, more complex and well-equipped command units were introduced in the field both planetside and in space.

The Jötunn-Class Command Vehicle is a prime example of this trend in the planetary branch of EarthForce. Equipped for front-line engagements, this vessel provides a fully functional command center in the field to coordinate large-scale operations even on alien planets with no supporting local infrastructure and communication capabilities in orbit.

Deploying especially dedicated command and control vehicles during large-scale operations has some precedent in EarthForce. During the earliest decades of its existence, EarthForce was still at a disadvantage compared to militaries of singular, centralized nations, as EarthForce task forces were then often comprised of a great number of different nationalities with varying equipment and training. During these time, coordination was also a major problem.
