As a specialized asset, the TIE Saboteur had some use to imperial forces in their fight against the rebellion. Sabotage droids and other specialized payloads delivered by the bomber variant could neutralize enemy vessels while sparing key components such as astromech droids, pilots, or specific compartments, allowing imperial intelligence to obtain more valuable information and salvage.

The ultimate failure of the TIE Saboteur program was later attributed less to the fighter variant and its delivery system and more so the general unwillingness of the imperial military to heavily invest in specialized droids to fully capitalize on the platform's potential. Instead, further developments were focused on different payloads, ranging from superheavy proton charges to remotely guided torpedoes, seismic mines, and ion emitters. While multiple payload variations showed some promise, they failed to advance beyond the experimental stage, leaving the TIE Saboteur's arsenal in a perpetual state of uncertainty.
