Faint white wisps of un-reality lick at the edges of the shroud, where the cyclopean mechanism tears at the fabric of space and time. Frail, invisible fields of contorted energy stand alone between the Mothership and annihilation, breaking the turbulence within the shroud and allowing a fleet to follow in its wake. Battleships and cruisers, mere specks and sparks before the thundering surface of the sun, burn hard to keep up with their leading vessel. Weeks of this acceleration will strain their crew and systems to the last, demanding utmost performance and discipline without respite, so that they may reach the precipice at the end of the titanic structure, the link between two stars. They are all drowned by the overwhelming light, caught in the winds of unending solar storms. The link itself siphons that energy draws from the burning heart of a star to break through the barriers imposed by all known laws. In those last days of the acceleration, when the shroud grows into a white inferno swallowing the Mothership and its fleet, they will transition into a different state, caught in the nimbus beyond all that is known. Every transition between systems is a push beyond the known universe, and that knowledge alone haunts those making the journey. Who can say what dreams await in that timeless moment in-between?
