Description
[::: strange loops and patterns :::]Beginning a study into biomechanics, mechanisation of organic components and repeated paradoxes, as a set.
Biomechanics - the "ascending sensory input interface" if you will, appears to have the properties of a head, giving it a life like quality. With the head down, the vehicle lacks personality, and appears as if more a blind creature.
Theyre just sketches, nothing more. Its what i do, right?
All the same, all comments welcome and appreciated, thanks!
approx 50 mins, no reference.
- also, to answer some questions ive been getting recently - i dont, and will never do, tutorials. Nor do i say what tools or techniques i use. Originality comes through you working the stuff out yourself, putting in the hardwork - as we all have to do - or should. Tutorials are just a shortcut to failure in my opinion. There are already enough horrid jdillon clones out there, and itd be a shame to see a load of concept art clones as well.
I could go on for ages about this but i shallnt
Happy 2007 guys!

hmm, I never thought of the tutorials thing that way, but now that you word it like that, I can easily understand your stand on it. Interesting - and I am starting to think you are right. Original creativity will produce the most appealing artwork ... which is what I guess you're pushing for with your drawing there *squint* a little less straight-forward than your other stuff, but I still enjoy looking at it ^-^

well, i think you have to dabble in mess before you can come out of the other side with order!
or ... something like that
About the tutorials - theres obviously different "levels" of it. There are just way too many that "teach" you how to "draw" in a persons style. They fail when they attempt to try and show you how to replicate someones style - ie "use this brush" "draw this first". They are good, when they try and show you ... what a tool actually does. Then its up to the artist to decide what to do with that tool - if that makes sense.
I'm a firm believer in Elizabeth Edwards developed theories of Symbol Systems. And too many artists learn based on symbol system. They learn how to draw a certain thing really well, but then ... cant do squat else. "omg hear are an anime face. from front on. Using the exact same pose for every pic, or exact same face, or design, and they think they can draw because of it. Basically, it boils down to this : everyone can play chopsticks on the piano. But that doesnt mean they can play the piano. And everyone can cook beans on toast, but that doesnt mean they can "cook". And so on. I think to "draw" you really have to be versatile. Otherwise youe just someone who can "draw robots really well" or "draw cloud/alien/master chief" really well.
If i wanted pure popularity here at dA or, just for people to line up and say "OMG THIS R AMAZING" i would just draw line after line of aliens vs halo pics. But, i think once youve proven yourself in a certain area, you should move onto something else. Therell always be the fanboy inside of me that actually wants to just sit and draw master chief and alien and cloud all day. But the part of me that actually wants to be considered "someone who can draw" is much more dominant, so i have to restrained.
I dont normally bother with quite such long responses to comments i get, but youve always made the effort to comment well on my stuff so, i think its times well spent
Thanks, as always!

Haha no I'm honoured that you take the time to read and reply to my comments.
Well, it's refreshing to see an artist who is true to what I believe is the basis of art. That is, don't sell yourself out to the general public. It's a shame that so many people, especially on this community, seem to do that.
Likewise with the tutorial thing. you really do have a point ... it seems better that people develop their own style from inside themselves. Makes me kind of wish i would get back into drawing, but i seem to have completely lost my creative inspiration. in the meantime, keep on with that mess hahaha .. i like it ^^ (the puzzle element keeps me hooked :/ lol)

"Transformers, robots in disguise!"
Awesome sketch work, as usual, heheh. Bio-organic machines always have that kind of interesting appeal to them, I think.
Tru, I agree with your reaction to those types of comments. But I'd be interested in learning what tools and techniques an artist uses, not so I can use it myself, but just to know is all. Sometimes that kind of information makes the work more interesting, in my opinion. But then again, there's nothing wrong about being straight forward and to the point.
Keep up the superb job (^-^)!

I know what you mean but well, i think its better as a learner, to find the stuff out yourself, you know? So then, in future, you can recognise it yourself. Learning through trial and error makes you more stable and flexible. Well, thats what i think anyway!

And I agree with that as well. That is possibly the best way to gain experience then, heheh.

That looks like a moving mountain. Like how you added those gear things on its legs, and how the back thing when its up, like a shark fin. Its stupendous. (did I spell that right)
Looks kinda like a skyscraper and a robot.

Really cool! Kinda has a beetle-like look to it.
Great legs.
Tutorials aren't for cloning, they're for the propagation and expansion of knowledge. The clones are just lazy people bringing everyone else down. ^_^

stunning - and leaves a lot to the imagination. Subtle colors would be excellent on this piece.

Woah. Simply... This simply looks like something straight out of some industry-level concept artbook. It's simply THAT good. Stunning.
And I quite agree about the tutorial comment. The only tutorials I really care about these days are colouring ones, and really only for the technical aspects. Too many clones that all don't teach anything useful.

I like it; looks like a moving/living sentry/rock. Very nice indeed- I'd like to see those gears on it's front joints spin as it walks~(something about those steampunk flicks always appealed to me for some odd reason) ^^

Amazing ink work, and the brush strokes to add to the line weight turned out great.
looking at this made me think of Yoji Shinkawa's work. awesome work mang :3
