Description Hey guys,

MORE BORDERLANDS! The Hyperion cooperation issued this new gun. It's a top of the line automatic pistol, the Glock-18. With an extra Hyperion commando knife.

Step by step:

THE GUN:

This is a Glock-18, which is a tad bit different than other glocks on the market because this generation has a full auto setting. (insert evil laugh). The glock handle is fully polymer, all internal parts are steel, and the slide is aluminum. I got this gun from the main retailer in the Benelux. Here is a store in the Benelux that I found to have good pricing and service.

SANDING:
The whole gun needs to be sanded, especially the hard to reach parts. The gun is mostly made out of polymer, a kind of reinforced plastic. Paint sticks really well to these surfaces and won't be a problem. The slide is made from metal though, and I have yet to find a good way of having paint stick to shiny flat metal. So I've used the same sanding as on the other parts in hope of the best.

PAINT:
I don't mind having the paint chip off on the gun, since it will make it look more Borderlandsy. But having the paint fall off completely would be a fail. So instead of the normal spray paint, I used the more expensive one.

PAINT - the slide:

The masking on this pistol was a bitch, so to say. I tried to make the slide look like carbon-fiber, I'd say I've failed on that part. It doesn't look like carbon-fiber enough, but it doesn't look bad either. So... Meh?

All the small squares on the slide are cutout and taped on the slide individually. I've tried the rubber floor mat thing, but that didn't seem to work very well. I've also tried cutting out the pattern on paper but that just fell apart. So small pieces of tape it was. The Hyperion esque race stripe was masked and painted on top of the carbon-fiber layers.

The spray-paint order was 2x primer, 3x black, 3x Silver, 3x White paint, 2x clear paint. I've learned from a few video's that having the fake carbon-fiber shine, helps sell the effect a lot. So I used gloss on all the spray-paints.

PAINT - Internals & Buttons

I'd taken the gun apart in the beginning so I could paint the internals individually. Which seemed to work. Though the parts being smooth metal made it a lot harder. Eventually it worked out. But then I ran

into the next problem. I've noticed this in the ARP9 build as well, the internals in guns are really tight fitting! So even the 2/10th's of a millimeter of paint seemed to stop the gun from working. That meant that I had to very specifically sand away the paint on certain points. After putting the gun together and taking it apart again several times, the gun finally functioned again.

The spray-paint order was 2x primer, 3x yellow, 2x clear paint.

PAINT - Outlines

The pictures were taken and the placement editing was done, and then I realized I forgot the outlines for the borderlands pistol. I did do that in the end, but I couldn't bring myself to do this step again. Xx '

Where you can do it better / what to look out for:

Study the pattern you're trying to emulate a bit more before starting work. Again, it didn't turn out bad, but it didn't turn out like carbon-fiber either.

If you're able to make sure which parts are in contact with other the other internals of the gun before painting them, it will save you a lot of hassle later on.

I hope you like my build, and that you've maybe learned something.
As always, do enjoy.

thank you, I don't post much, but I try to keep an eye on props and other stuff. Always nice to see a write up for an item too. Keep up the good work.
