Description
Whether you've experienced art theft first hand, supported a friend affected by it, or have just heard about it around dA, artistic integrity is a serious issue. Tracing and heavily referencing without permission are just as bad as stealing. If you support artistic integrity and would like to spread the word that theft is wrong (and possibly avert any would-be thieves!), consider using this stamp, or...I've developed a message about artistic integrity that you can integrate into your journal. If you use CSS, here's the code I use in my journal:
[This part goes in your CSS box]
.element {
position:relative !important;
overflow:auto!important;
vertical-align:top !important;
width:92% !important;
border:3px #8fcb0f inset !important;
color:#ffffff !important;
padding:15px!important;
}
You can customize it by changing the border size, color, and style as well as the text color.
[This part goes in your journal/header/footer:]
Please do not use art you find online without obtaining permission from the artist! Art theft is extremely discouraging and insulting to artists who post online. Imitation is NOT the sincerest form of flattery. Thank you for respecting art.
Feel free to change the wording, but the basic message should stay the same. If you don't use CSS, just the words will be just as good.
Furthermore, you can insert these plz accounts into your Artist's Comments under each deviation as an additional deterrent:
It's wrong to use someone's picture of their character as your RP character. It's wrong to profit from other people's drawings. And it's wrong to mutilate someone's art and claim it as your own.
I support artistic integrity.

Hello PhoenixBLUEart!
I wanted to ask you first. Is it okay if I favorite your stamp and then:
1) Add it to the Comments of deviations I have permission from another artist to repost
and
2) To add it to my stamp feature box on my account?
I am trying to figure out a way to combine stamps in my comments to get across that I have permission from the artist to repost the photos she took of me.

That sounds fine. As long as you have permission and (ideally) were involved in the creation in some way (which it sounds like you were, as the subject of the photos), I think that's a legitimate if slightly unusual use of this stamp. And credit the photographer, but I'm sure you thought of that!

Indeed. I am the Cosplayer dressed as Luna Lovegood in the photos!
I usually put the following at the top:
Copyright: [Photographers IRL Initials] ft. Model [my name].
Photographer: [Their icon]
Model: [My Icon]
Also, I can't find any stamps that say what I want them to, so your comes as close to the mark as possible.

Woo! I'd like to stop by and see them when they're up, then.

Go ahead!
There are some pictures up already from another photo shoot that I took part in with an earlier version of my costume! You can look at those if you want. I was going to put the stamp on those, too!

Thank you for making this. Can this go in a signature as well? I will start using this statement from now on. Art theft disgusts me and there is a user named Rex-Suler who has stolen Transformers art from other members who worked hard on their art.

I don't think stamps can be used in signatures? I've never seen it done, anyway.
And, uh... not to be rude, but you're using content in your gallery which is copyrighted to other parties.

Really? I am sorry I got a little confused with motivational poster and copyright laws. If you want I can take them out. Thank you for telling me.

It's probably better if you do take them down; otherwise, the staff will when someone reports them. I can't really blame you for being confused because I've seen so many people doing them lately even though it is against the rules. And technically, you can't claim art theft on something that didn't belong to you to begin with. Just an FYI since you do seem to care about these things.

Thank you! My gallery is empty now. I will be more careful from now. Yes I have seen a lot of motivational posters here so I thought I could do it too.

I've recently seen a friend become a subject to this. *Zerna had a few art thieves. One of them would be in complete denial that she "stole art" but would not admit that she heavily reffed her work.
Then there are people saying how there's never originality so you can't expect anyone to make anything remotely original.
Sure shit ain't original anymore, but at least stop reffing someone else!! I'm tired of these kiddos saying "I DIDN'T STEAL...BUT OMG I LOVE THAT ARTIST SO MUCH. btw im not stealing lol" when you clearly see a bunch of heavily reffed pieces in their gallery. :/ Doesn't mean it's not "theft".

Saying there is no originality is never an excuse - those people are missing the point entirely. Everything we create is inspired or built from things we have knowledge of, true, so in the strictest sense there is no originality. However, there is definitely authenticity: making something of your own from your experiences and knowledge. I think that's what is important.
I also think that it's one thing if you want to re-draw a favorite artist's piece to try to learn something about their style, but it's another if you post that to dA and claim it as your work. It's like any other practice - who would upload every single doodle and study s/he did? dA would be flooded!

Plus, most art-thieves end up being hipocrites!
They say it's wrong, but they still do it, anyone can end up beeing an art-thief...

I suport this idea! ^^
It also huurts when someone sais it's childish (or any other form of insulting the art) to devote your time to art, they don't understand how precious a piece of it (ugly as some mey be) is to the artist.

thank you for making this. my friends and i are constantly dealing with art thieves and it's great to know that we artists can organize ourselves against it.

I've had this sorta thing happen to me (though not as severely as some people) and thoroughly agree - just because art is free to look at, doesn't mean its easy pickings to claim as one's own! 8P

Exactly! I dislike the idea of applying watermarks to everything I post here, and yet sometimes I feel nearly driven to it in order to protect my work. People who aren't artists don't understand the value of art to its creator. Each piece is like a child.
...sometimes they're hideous children, but you still love them...
