I used separate layers for each part of the shading/detailing, foreground and background; and I had almost as many color and effects layers to get the look I wanted.

It's actually easier than you might think once you know all the different ways layers interact with one another set to different modes. It'd be cool to see how you work though, I'm always up for learning different techniques.

Thanks. The people who know me, know I'm a bit of layer crazed when I work. I'll make layers for almost any reason. If my shading is too light instead of taking the time to rework it, I'll duplicate the layer and start messing with it's settings and opacity. I also had a lot of effect layers in this one that change things like the colors and the lighting.

Thanks, hair is one of the things I've covered in the tutorial, along with layer masks, and basic digital painting. You should check it out once I get it finished.
