As far as Star Wars aliens go, they're completely unique in that they're totally outside the force. Their gods are dead and their culture revolves around pain and death. They'd be right at home in the worst of the Warhamer 40K universe. And for Jedi and Sith, they hate both and find that they both taste the same.Β

So looking at this and the Dune Empire profile, the average Vong soldier is much more skilled than the average Dune soldier. The problem is getting through those shields, while the Dune soldiers will struggle to around the Vong's armor. There's a conundrum with the fights since all the elites in Dune are taught a style with the Holtzman shield in mind and focuses on fast parries and slow strikes.
All that said, the Vong's biggest threat is the Contaminator. Since the Vong's army is all organic right down to their weapons and armor, just letting one of those things touch their armor is going to lead to a lot casualties. It's probably not going to be enough to win though seeing as their leadership would notice and say "Shoot those things instead of getting near them." I don't see even the Vong as being crazy enough to get near a walking germ weapon that touching will turn them into team killers. Or are they?

Lord I haven't thought about this matchup in years.Β
I've long since left the facebook I made this for, but truly I still enjoy thinking about these hypothetical fictional army matches.Β
I have to say your analysis is well thought out and solid, as for Vong taking on armies of zombies. They might be crazy enough to take on those things if they strapped themselves with suicide bombs to clear out the infection. They were really, really fanatical.Β

New Jedi Order sounds like the last good story we had in the post ROTJ Legends era, everything after that sounds needlessly dark with no purpose. These guys sounded alien even by Star Wars standards and the stuff I've read about their defeat sounded awesome without them just losing because the plot needed them to.
Speaking of which, why does the plot armor accusation get thrown at them? What I've read of the series makes it sound they were winning at first thanks to the alien tech but then they started to run into problems with actually occupying the galaxy when they were so hostile to everything around them.

They were a species I really loved, and as you read the books the war swung either way so many times that you were left just wracked with tension. At the end of the day, they were a moribund species. They were a lot like a realistic version of the Imperium of man, a stagnant, warlike species whose religion was essentially a death cult and were slowly being left behind by species who still embraced science. Their attempts to recreate their lost homeworld was both grotesque, genocidal and pathetic.Β
And yeah they were damn alien, they honestly felt like they'd come from out of the galaxy and were outside the force.Β
And yes there's the fact that they were stretched thin by having to occupy a whole Galaxy, something the Galactic republic itself barely managed to do with much more support.Β
They're basically a grimdark species done right and done smart.Β

Not to say you didn't do a good job or anyting, Boots (and I believe you did an awesome job), but since Kyle apparently rejected this profile, I'm remaking it over on Blogger- it'll be stuck with the Strogg profile as well, because Metal.
I just figured I'd let you know.

You have my blessings to do with this profile what you wish. I'm sort of on vacation from the Facebook group so you've got my full confidence.
Plus you always write the most badass profiles

Well the Strogg and the Vong both are ultra metal. shit, one of their leaders looked like the bastard lovechild of Mobius the vampire and Nathan Explosion.
Also I'm going to check out some of your profiles, I always love your stuff.

So I remember hearing that this profile (and the Dune) needed some slight updating before they could enter the PC. Whatever happened with that?

Oh well right now they're busy with the Kingdom Conquest tournament,
I've been a little removed from the proceedings, sort of doing my own thing now

Oh sweet god that's awesome! The Vong certainly live up to their reputation as badasses. Very well done. The Dune will certainly have a worthy opponent on their hands. It's a shame that this is their first alien contact, as I think it'll color all future meetings in a darker light.
It's time to let the blood, and the spice flow...

I'm glad that you like this Β
THe Vong have become my favourite star wars villains, the novels they feature in are astoundingly well written and they're just so much fun and so nuanced.Β
Yes, Dune will have their hands full, but if they can beat the Vong, they can beat almost anyone.Β

Thank you so much I'm a little surprised and flattered by your opinion so thanks. I wanted to represent the vong properly since reading the first few books in the series.
Everything about them is awesome, from their looks to their culture and the key characters we revile and connect with

Ah, see its been i few years since I've read the Vong series. I read them mostly in H.S. But yeah they are so ALIEN in every definition of the word and the authors of that era of S.W expressed that so very well. My best friend and I think it is one of the best done series of the Expanded Universe. It brings out so many characters and story lines. And the way they build the Vong is just awesome. They are the "bad guys" but we cant help but be curious as to their motives and such and to find out that it is simply their culture (akin to Mandalorians in some ways) but that there is a darker mystery to them that gets resolved by the end of the series.
Again, great work! Always happy to see some quality Star Wars work here on D.A

I love the vong. The mandos were cool, but they just didn't inspire the dread, fear and awe that the vong do. They really felt like an utterly alien culture with radically strange values and ways. Plus I love how they're not just one note assholes. Among other things they love practical jokes

I am a Mando fan all the way, but yeah I agree. The Vong really make you feel on edge, always wondering what they are going to do next and how all the regular characters are going to deal with the newest threat. Great stuff.
