Description The Original of this was smaller than 5x7 so as to be legally miniature art. It sold at a silent auction, so it is out there somewhere ... prints and notecards are to be available soon, though. This took a month or so to do, and I really like the way the trunk came out.

Holy moley!
Did you go off of a photo, or did you give a basic trace to it before stippling, or... how?! What kind of black magic allows such- flawless and proportioned work?! Tell me your secret, witch!

Sorry homeskllet but pointilism in pen and ink will never be considered "fine art" it's illustration and always will be. Also the stippling term used was correct. Stippling is the action of applying dots, pointilism is the resulting picture.

Sorry, but I could not find 'homeskllet' in the dictionary, so you'll have to explain what that means. However, the rest of your statement makes me wonder how much you know about art terminology and art history.
Ultimately, the term fine in 'fine art' comes from the concept of final cause, or purpose, or end. The final cause of fine art is the art object itself; it is not a means to another end except perhaps to please those who behold it. details are my thing. Anyone can do it if they just take the time and effort. Most don't so their art looks like they they don't.

i wish i could get that meticulous detail in what i do, but i don't have the time, capability nor attention span...one day...

MasterOfPointillism In reply to EatToast [2006-09-03 08:40:16 +0000 UTC]

If wishes were clown fishes, then we'd all be fishermen. When you get to a point and time in your life when you want the capability and attention span, then you will begin to work on mastering those traits. Only with time and effort is anything accomplished, never by 'wishing' for it, however wishing could be considered a first step to those goals. When most people want something bad enough, they find a way to attain it.

I don't do stipling, I only use dots.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyart09 In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2006-08-28 18:00:47 +0000 UTC]

I know that but umm.......well here is the proper terms used.
"Stippling is the technique of using small dots to simulate varying degrees of solidity or shading.
In a drawing or painting, the dots are made of pigment of a single color, applied with a pen or brush; the denser the spacing of the dots, the darker the apparent shade β€” or lighter, if the pigment is lighter than the surface. This is similar to - but distinct from - pointillism, which uses dots of different colors to simulate blended colors."
heh dont mean to be the correct police here but.... in a sense i was right, but i spelled the word incorrectly, for that i am sorry.

I use Pointillism because I feel that it elevates the art, where as stippling makes it sound as though it's an arts and craftish kind of thing, instead of fine art ....
