Description Narrator: "Taking a deep breath, Stoick leaned down and exhaled, 'My son....'

"In one quick but gentle motion, Stoick picked up Hiccup and held him close to his face. Hiccup cooed with delight, wiggled his legs, and stretched out his arms as far as he could, trying to hug his father's whole head. Stoick chuckled at his son's determination and nuzzled into Hiccup's surprisingly strong embrace. 'Don't worry my son;' he said, 'I'll watch over you.'

"And with that promise spoken, Stoick quietly reflected on the sadness and joy of the day as Hiccup nestled into his beard and fell asleep."

Yes, I bet Stoick's beard smells greasy really greeeezeee! I mean, how often does he wash it?

Thanks charlotteav99!

Beautiful image- showing just how tiny and lanky Hiccup is in his father's arms (though I personally think he is normal sized- everyone else on Berk is so epically well built with bodies honed to be tall and heavy for fighintg dragons).

I like you still kept the tears in Stoick's eyes. There is also something oddly propetic in that image- like Stoick holding Hiccup's broken body years later after the Red Death fight.

Plus this shows even at this age, Hiccup was an empath who has an instinct to show kindness.

Life goes on. When a life ends, there are others that go on, and there will always be a lot of his mother in Hiccup, I believe (I like to think he got his inventiveness from her)

Lovely story and very touching without being maudlin.

Thank you milady Mustang! Yes, I'd have to agree that Hiccup is probably just a regular (skinny) sized teenage guy, but when juxtaposed with these viking weight lifters, he looks even tinier. I wanted to play with that idea since Stoick is immensely built and strong, yet he had to care for his tiny child. His hands alone could have done a lot of damage to the frail frame of a child, so Stoick had to exercise a lot of control when handling baby Hiccup. Quite and contradictory picture!

You noticed the tears AND the foreshadow of Stoick holding Hiccup after the battle. Does anything ever get past you?! Nah.

And yes again! I wanted to show that Hiccup's empathy and gentle kindness were part of his nature from the beginning.

Master Rohan bows to his friend Mustang. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! One ends and another cometh!

Oh, your words are so kind, Horse Lord.

I guess I am influenced by the Icelandic history classes I had in Iceland, but so many of the North Atlantic Islands (where Berk is) were a cross of Norwegian Viking and Scottish/Irish Celt blood. The Berk Vikings got to be so big and powerful because for 300 or so years the only ones who survived to adulthood were the big bodied axe wielders. Teenagers could be skinny but they eventually grew to be the big and tough Berk Vikings.

Hiccup, for me, represents a throwback to the original Berk settlers, especially the Celts who might have been on the island before the Vikings came- he is average human height, slender, dark red hair, green-gray eyes, freckles, literate, inventive, snarky humor-- all those things point to him being a throwback to the original Celtic people on Berk before the Vikings came- who knows, maybe Valhallarama was from that blood- she was probably as tall and powerful as the other Vikings, but she had the brown hair and gray eyes of the original Celts- and their inventive spirit and love of nature and kindness. So, Hiccup would have been born as a type of throwback- showing the original smaller Celtic people of the islands when the Vikings first came, but he also shows both his parents' features. He's got his mother's darker hair and sarcastic humor and inventiveness, and a lot of red from his father's hair. And he has his dad's green eyes, but with some of his mother's gray eyes- and a lot of his dad's stubborness- so he has inherited things from both his parents, but also is a throwback to the original settlers of the island.

And I bow back to you for making these beautiful stories you make. I love your way of showing HTTYD characters to bring out both their strength and courage and also empathetic and more emotionally fragile moments.

Great job, sir!

Hiccup's arms are too long and thin, but other than that, I like it. c:

It's funny to think about someone as big and strong as Stoick trying to carefully hold something as fragile as a young child, especially a scrawny child like Hiccup.

Master Rohan: "Please don't drop the baby, Stoick! And please remember your strength! Don't crush him!"

Yea it is. But it kind of shows the contrast between the two even at that young age for Hiccup.

Yes it does. It's like how can this little thing grow up to be like that big guy?!

But I think that Stoick really loves his son.

Master Rohan (to Hiccup): "Awww, see your father loves you."

Hiccup: "Yeah, I know, he just has a weird way of showing sometimes."

Master Rohan: "I think that's true of most fathers."

Hiccup: "Oh well, at least that's the last of my baby pictures....right?."

Master Rohan (whistles an unintelligible tune).
