Description
Here we have Narra. Or Nara depending on where you look online. Robotix was a very short lived cartoon in 1986. It was done in the same successful model of G.I. Joe and The Transformers with Sunbow creating the cartoon and Marvel making the comic books. Even the same voice actors showed up. However this toy line was done by Milton Bradley and not Hasbro. Fun tip, MB sold Transformers in Europe at the time. Even though this was done the same as the two other successful toy lines Robotix failed to catch on as strong. Personally I only remembered the modulated voice of the title itself from the cartoon and the commercials. Probably because I thought it was a rip off of the kids who said "Robots in Disguise!" in the Transformers commercials. I wonder if the competition of Construx, Capsella and of course Zoids was the killing blow to this fledgling franchise. The toys started in 1985 that I can tell. This particular model, Narra, didn't seem to have a toy that I can find online. Now for my drawing. I felt it was better to keep her looking as much as her cartoon style as I could. Changing her from a 4 legged saucer would just be making a new character. So the layouts were the cartoon. From there I started my fine tuning. I changed up her feet to allow more movement. I wanted to remove the octagon bolts, but that seems to be the style of all of the Robotix so they had to stay. I added the panels on her upper arms because there is a scene where she has a crane come out of there and I needed to some more detail. But the biggest change I did was her face. Two eyes and a mouth that moved just laying on a flat exterior did not work for me. So I looked to EVE from Wall-E. The scan lines are so 80s and fit so well with this character's face IMO. Sadly after shrinking the drawing the scan lines can hardly be seen. Her dome looks like it is glass, but the cartoon never showed it as transparent. I had no clue what would be inside there since the pilot sits in the module under her head. I do like the M looking like a Majin symbol from DBZ.
I believe this is my last 1980s cartoons, major character, non-anime female robot that I haven't drawn to this point. This doesn't mean no more fembots from me though. There are still many more to explore.
