Description
No, its not a dragon its a Behir. An Abyssal Behir to be certain, with traits of his demonic nature flaring all over it.this commission was a pretty challenging one. Its rarely that I get commission in which the focus needs to stay on the overall scene rather than on a character. So I took my time and enjoyed working on this one.

Could be. But then again, second wind, healing magic or even raise dead...

I really dig the archer in the Cobra armor, really makes you want to know what his deal is.

Its just a set of magic armor I personalized it to make it look like a snake. I mean, when the armor has some sort of name like "the serpent's skin" or something like that, kind of make you show that in the armor's design somehow.

Lol, I remember playing this module.
...my character found himself in the position that dwarf is in right now. Poor Clive, RIP.

Well, the puppet died. Hopefully at least the puppeteer had some fun.

And having fun in such an innocent way is what's best in life. I'm sure Conan would agree if he would know about d&d.

Definitely. Even if he would disapprove of how few barbarians I've played
Though ironically, even my most evil characters really wouldn't have cared for the "lamentations of their [broken enemies'] women". Most of even them cared more about breaking the enemies themselves, or the end goal.

Just as long as you enjoyed the game, that should be enough.

Unfortunately this illustration was made for a magazine thus it can't be republished, otherwise I would have gladly allowed you to use it. If you refer at the Behir's design 'tho, you have my permission to use it as an inspiration.

Its an abyssal behir. The wings are just vestigial wings. Obviously they are of no use to him. So....

Thank you, that was the idea. Its not an usual behir, its an abyssal one, full of fire on the inside.

Yeah, detail is my benediction and my curse. Its easy to spoil an image with just one drop of too much detail. I often do it. Hopefully this time I got the recipe just right

To me, all that says is that you're putting a ton of effort into it. I don't have the patience for that, so to me it's really cool! I think it came out great honestly!

Well, she's more like a dudette I know she doesn't look the most feminine of her but you try like a super model while clinging to some column while sitting acid at your enemy

I know but given the posture and the armor you have to zoom on her face to see she's a girl.

awesome.. now im curious about the classes of the players in it...
one looks like duskblade or perhaps dragon shaman? then a ranger? some sort of rogue-thing... or perhaps a swashbuckler? and the poor dwarf in the mouth... i bet he wishes he had a blink ring >.> or anklets of teleportation... or SOMETHING..

MatesLaurentiu In reply to jitsumi1221 [2010-09-16 23:32:05 +0000 UTC]
The one crawling on the pillar spitting acid its indeed a dragon shaman, a very good guess. To be honest I was amused thinking "Now thats a woman with a REAL dragon breath in the morning" And when she takes an "acid tone" with you, she'll mean it
I'm not sure but the dwarf in the mouth of the behir might be a fighter. His class wasn't mentioned, the client just told me there is a dwarf in the mouth of the beast. The two bladed character is a rogue AND a swashbuckler (I did his portrait - twice - some time ago) - you're good at this . The green armored guy is a Dragon hunter (I worked his portrait some time ago too).

hahaha i have a confession... all the ones i guessed right were characters i considered making for the campaigns i am playing in. Dragon shaman i decided not too. she looks awesome in the picture, the line of acid gave it a big clue.. i was thinking the only people that could do that, that i knew of were magicy types with a breath weapon feat... (and they tend to wear lighter armors) or arcane hack and slashers.. *snort* "dragon breath" all the time seems rather unpleasant.. lol more so since it shoots a line straight through.. imagine greeting your mates in the morning, poor people.
*snorts* poor poor potential fighter. *pats*
Hah awesome with the swash rogue. a mate and i have a sort of team thing going in one campaign, hes rogue/swashbuckler and i play a fighter/swashbuckler. makes for good times. woo dual weapons <3
I haven't actually read the dragon hunter stuff, skimmed past that prestige going through the draconomicon (its in that one isn't it?)
beautiful piece though, i have to go figure out what a "bahir" is now

Hehe, seems like you have loads of great fun adventuring
The Behir is a lizard like creature with a LOT of legs. You can check it in the Monster Manual.

Well, believe me, the first sketches of it (which unfortunately I didn't kept) were quite crappy. Fortunately for me, two of the characters were "old friends". Now I'm thinking if I could've make this more dynamic. Anyways, was fun to work on it. Hard but fun. Lots of audio books finished while working on this one

Hehe, well, first sketches of things are usually not too good when your first starting out. But that's always good haha. Atleast you finished a lot of books

I usually nail my characters and scenes out on the first sketch. Sometimes I find out that good descriptions doesn't automatically make for good images and some other times the clients just change their minds and we work until we got it right.

Yeah hehe, I could imagine when you do art for other people that it'll probably take a few drafts and different ideas before it's right. And I agree on that, descriptions can be very different for what to people imagine a person or scene to look like :3
