Description The only way to truly tell what kind of life we’ve led is through what remains of it on our skin. It is both our protection and connection to the world. Scars become evidence of experience just as wrinkles and stretch marks depict the effects of time. Our complexion can reflect emotional turmoil or glow with healthy vitality. What most interests me about skin is that, when photographed in detail, it becomes abstract and is transformed into something entirely different. Disturbing subject matter can be rendered beautiful and an imperfection can become something other than a flaw. In this, both personal history and time become tangible. As unsightly as scars can be, they are evidence of our lives, our frailty, and our mortality.

This photograph speaks volumes to me. It makes me think of emotional struggles that make us claw at ourselves, a pain that never eases.

β€œMike” was shot on type 55 Polaroid Pos/Neg film. The B&W neg was printed using a color enlarger. The final image is 30"x40". I don’t know if you know Sara Moons work, I thought of her when I was looking through your gallery. She’s a fashion photographer from the 50's who completely transcends the genre. She used Pos/Neg film in a lot of her work.

Again thanks for looking

I like the deep toning it appears to have. The hard lighting really gives the image (visual)depth. Unique approach to the concept...most people only shoot faces or hands when they want to show the effects of time. I think that the tattoos are interesting as well. Another strong image.
