Checkpoint 1.1: Display a fond childhood memory, write why it is the fondest.

A fond memory that stands out in my mind the most is helping my mother take care of my father's wounds. It might not have been the cleanest or most pleasant experience, but it was proof that my father loved us and would do anything to keep us safe- even fighting off those who wished to harm us. He gained so many scars that his dappled coat was almost background noise to the gashes that covered his body. He never complained though; actually, he would apologize every time, feeling guilt or shame for putting us in this sort of situation. My mother on the other hand was always very patient with him. She would always say that it was alright and she'd have him fixed up in no time- which she did. She possessed the gift of herbal knowledge so she always knew what to do, even when my father gained the deepest of cuts. She taught me that being a healer- which is what she was to my father -was a job that required love and compassion, no matter who your patient was.
