RIVER IS NOW DECEASED Cry me a River
Name: River
Breed: Parsons Russell Terrier/Staffordshire Terrier (mom) x Czechoslovakian Wolfdog (dad)
Height: 23"
Weight: 75 lbs
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Faction: Strays
Rank: Leader
Family: n/a (ask me if you want to have family for her)
Mate: None
Color: Chocolate tricolor
Defining Features: River has heterochromia (bi-colored eyes); her left eye is an icey blue and her right eye is a bold, bright amber/orange.
Her nose and pawpads are spotted.
Her face is completely white EXCEPT for a patch around her right eye.
Her right ear is always standing up while her left ear is always flopping.
Her fur is dense and scruffy, which makes it look naturally very unkempt.
Personality: [Willful] [Clever] [Domineering] [Self-Reliant] [Belligerent] [Complicated]
Willfull: No one tells River what to do. No one. Her decisions are hers alone and no one has the right to tell her if they're right or wrong. She does what she wants and she doesn't care who her actions affect. She believes that all strays have the right to do as they please and she holds that belief higher than anything else in her life; she'd even die for it.
Clever: Being a stray, River has caught on to quite a bit of mischievous behaviors. She knows the ins and outs of the town and how to get from point A to point B without even being seen. She thinks on her toes and can get out of most sticky situations without even having to throw a punch. She doesn't play by the rules either; she's crafty and she can find ways to cheat or make things easier for herself.
Domineering: Although she believes that all strays have the right to do and say what they want, River also knows that without a leader, the stray faction would be chaos, so even though she knows they all want to do as they please, sometimes she has to be the leader- and she's damn good at it. She's manipulative and tyrranical when she needs to be, and sometimes she even enjoys it. Don't let her small stature fool you either; she knows how to make people listen to her. She's the leader of the strays for a reason!
Self-Reliant: As the stray life calls for it, River has learned to rely on one thing alone: herself. She has a hard time trusting others, to say the least. She never asks for help and she rarely accepts it when offered. She's not a hero either, but sometimes she does go out of her way to help someone else. She always claims that they're vital to the faction, but sometimes the reasons behind her helping someone are a little fuzzy.
Belligerent: River loves to fight, in several senses of the word. She's nasty and she's got a dictionary full of snappy come-backs and insults that she can whip out at any time. She doesn't take crap from anyone and she can definitely hold her own in a fight, although she relies heavily on her speed rather than her strength- which isn't nonexistant either. It's safe to say that she wins 8 out of 10 fights, and if she doesn't win, she will always win in a re-match.
Complicated: River is indeed complicated. On the outside, she is a rough and tumble girl who knows how to assert herself and how to take care of her self, but deep, deep, VERY deep down inside, she's confused and uncertain. Although she's able to do as she pleases whenever she pleases, River wonders what the meaning of her life is. Is she supposed to just be this wandering leader forever? Is there more that the universe has in store for her? She has so many questions, but she bottles them up inside and dares not show how afraid she is of the future.
Pre-Group History: You'd expect the leader of the strays to have been born a stray; it would have to be in their blood, right? Well, that isn't the case for River. Originally, she was born as a pet. Her mother, Darcie, had wandered just a tad too far from their yard and accidentally ran into a farmdog. The two hit it off and soon she was expecting. It took a couple weeks for her owners to realize she was carrying any pups, but once they did, they were excited but at the same time, nervous. The couple had a child of their own and they got an older dog who was trained so they didn't have to deal with a puppy. But now that Darcie was pregnant, they had no choice. The gestation went smoothely and soon she was in labor in their bathroom, giving birth to five healthy pups.
Pet life was warm and safe for them as they grew, and soon River and her siblings were weaned. Their owners had decided to try and adopt them out, try and get their neighbors to keep one or two. But to no avail. They even went as far as to try and look to other towns, but still, only a few found homes. As the pups continued to grow, they began to teeth. Darcie, being a first-time mother, wasn't exactly sure how to discipline them, so numerous times they would destroy something valuable. The owners weren't that mad usually, but when the pups began to go after the baby like a toy, they knew something had to be done.
It was a last resort and something they thought they would never have to do. They locked Darcie up in the house and took the remaining three pups to the outskirts of town, where they dropped them off, got back into their car, and left the pups abandoned and alone. They were terrified of course; River and her her sister Squeak and her brother Bone stayed together as long as they could, but eventually, they were found by a group of Junkyard dogs and Strays. The adults faught amongst themselves at who should take in the pups. The strays wanted to raise them to be free, but the junkys wanted to raise them with discipline. Scared and surrounded, the three pups scattered in separate directions. River ran headfirst into the street where she nearly got run over before one of the strays caught up to her and pulled her from the road. She never saw her siblings again after that day.
With reluctance, the stray who had caught her brought her back to his home in the stray society and raised her to be like one of them. She came to know him simply as Gideon. He was old, but still strong and very wise. He was the leader of the strays and when asked who she was he would always say that River was his daughter. She knew this was false, but she never denied it because she honesly never did know her real father. The more River grew and the more Gideon taught her, the more she began to despise the humans and even the pets. She thought the humans were betrayers and that the pets were naive for thinking that their humans cared about them. She began to deny that she was ever a pet and she swore to never go back to that life, not even to visit her mother.
When she was old enough to live on her own, Gideon was growing weaker by the day. He told her that it was her destiny to follow in his footsteps and assume leadership. She believed it and promised him that she would as he breathed his final breath. With vigor and determination in her soul, River took up the responsibility as the leader of the strays.
