You can now see this engine working at the Great Central Railway in BR black.

For a second, I thought this was an LMS Crab.

So they repainted it red and that started the controversy? I get the feeling that red is a high maintenance colour for a steamer and that's why they probably never painted them red initially.

She looks rather smart! However I did prefer pre smokebox door number...to me it seemed to be a nice change, along with the livery of course.

Very nice! I find THIS use of red, tastefully done, myself.

i think she looks very handsome in red, even for a Goods engine

If purists ruled everywhere, anyone who bought a Ford vehicle, would have no choice but to drive around in a black one.
So all I can say is, it looks great !

This is not only a good shot of a strikingly pretty engine, its also a good shot of her men hard at work... or with one man, hardly working, yes? lol

Looks oddly bright for Crimson Lake. Could be the lighting.

It was strangely bright weather, it's not very often sunny round here

Sharp looking machine.
What's so controversial about it? The fact that they didn't use to be red back in use?

I like it, good on them for doing what they wanted. It's not like it's replicating an engine from the past.. It's still the real deal so can and should be painted however the team wanted; they put the time and effort into it, not the people moaning and whinging.

It sort of is. Crimson is a pinky marroney red.

Controversial, but it looks fantastic! I really love it, an eyecatching livery, raises its profile in the public, raises the railways profile, and pisses off the over-serious purists

Exactly, and I suspect that had something to do with doing it

I actually like that, I never understand people's complaints about livery, it's paint and will one day be changed again, besides, Staniers suit it. Recognise the chap in the foreground, can't bring his name to mind.

I like it too, except the cab roof. I think it would look better if that were black.
I can't recall his name, but he's involved in 71000

Ah yes I'd agree with you there, it wasn't too apparent from this angle but when you point it out...yup.
