Description We came back to Nosworthy Bridge the following week, intending to walk upstream towards the moor rather than heading back down towards the lake.

Again, I've tried to keep this photo as close to the original as possible. The Hoya CPL warmed up the greens and made the blue sky a little deeper. All I needed to do was to dodge the darker areas a little, sharpened the photo using an unsharp mask, and added a few points of saturation to the hews. Oh, and I cropped the image slightly to improve the composition.

Gorgeous - it looks so warm there.
The sky is such a pretty color, too! I've had a problem lately with overexposing my skies; they come out close to white. Any tips?

By the way, what photo editing program are you using for the minor adjustments? Have you gotten Photoshop?

Oh Gawd... questions!

OK... ...again, the Colour Polariser (CPL) filter was used and adjusted so that it brings out the blue in the sky more. ND Grad filters are also go for helping to limit the light hitting the sensor so if you've got a bit of spare cash then it worth looking at them. Personally I like the CPL filter more because it can warm up the colours in foliage and is just so versatile; it makes nature shots look more... natural.

I have got Photoshop CS3 but I tend to PaintShopPro 10 because I find it more user friendly. Photoshop purists will tell you that Photoshop is the way to go, and digital camera magazines tend to favour it for tutorials. It's all down to personal preference though, if you ask me. Hope this helps?

That helps TONS. Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I've never really learned anything about filters/lenses; thanks for the quick run down.

What's negative space? Is that like being stuck in limbo?

Thanks for the Em

You're most welcome Matt negative space is the area/sky between the tree branches. easiest definition is: the space between objects or parts of an object, or around it. [link] did i just teach you something?! it's usually the other way around!

Yeah, I had no idea... I thought negative space was similar to dark matter

Hi Matt!
So good to see new photos of you in my watchbox dear!
Yeah, I may be slow in responding to them ... sorry been a bit catatonic lately!
Anyway, love the light-shadow palt in this one and the exposure is just right!

I gathered you've not been feeling well, Mary. I hope you're feeling lots better?

As far as my own photography's concerned, I've been pretty busy but I just haven't had any impulse to upload anything to DA or update my journal, so you're not alone.

Sounds strange, but I'm hoping this photo grows on me like The Rusty Road has. I'm please with how it came out technically - that CPL filter is amazing!

For starters I'd recommend keeping a UV filter permanently screwed on; it protects the lens, reduces glare and it's cheap as chips

I've been using the CPL a lot recently as opposed to my ND Grads, which are square types and a bit of a hassle if you're a photographer with ants in your pants like I am

I bought a new UV filter, the prat in the shop sold me the wrong size!
I have a bunch of old filters buried somewhere in the house, it would be nice to discover they work with the new toy
