Description
this was done with a brown ball point pen that i bought at wal-mart years ago. i put the brn ink cartridge in a pen body that i like. too many glops and the old ink changed color in the middle of the drawing. this is a C+. yeah, at least it's small.....jimmy rushing sang for the count basie band.

this one has a few small problems,...but it's such a small piece.

Sweet crosshatching, the lighting looks really nice.
The ear though, well, I won't say anything.

the ear was added freehand after the drawing was almost done. i was going to leave it in shadow, but it looked wrong. after i posted this pic i worked the ear in a little better. it looks more natural.

If this is a C+, I'd hate to see an A; it might make me put pencils down forever.
The face it stunning; great lighting and expression. I love the cross hatching. The brown pen is a nice change from blue/black and I think it helps with the subtlety of the finished piece.

i don't think i can produce an A that small with a med. pt. pen. unfortunately brown ink is almost impossible to find, let alone in fine point. i was going to keep the ear in shadow, but decided towards the end to bring it slightly out of the shadow. it's decisions like that that compromise this kind of drawing. i agree, the ink color actually saved this piece from the can. thanks for your comments. i will try to make a better go of a portrait later.

The only fine point brown I know of is made by Micron, but they obviously aren't ball points.

those are like gel pens. they can't do the things ball points do. they are very nice though.
