The MiG-31 - codenamed 'Firefox' as depicted in the 1982 Clint Eastwood thriller 'Firefox', based on the novel by Craig Thomas. In the movie Clint plays U.S.Air Force pilot Mitchell Gant who is smuggled into the airfield where the plane is being developed and tested and he steals the plane, flying it to the US. During the daring escape the plane flies at hypersonic speeds and flies at very low level to evade attack. The pressure pulse or shock wave prompts the water and snow-fields below and behind to erupt into giant plumes! Really cool. Often referred to as 'the firefox effect'.
