I stumbled across a photo of bodybuilder Ashlee Mane on Instagram and just knew I had to draw my take on it. The attitude, the physique- perfect! I had a lot of fun building the architecture for this one. Doing the wrinkles on her shorts was especially fun, because they consist of a lot of high energy lines done very quickly. It's been interesting trying to work out how to depict different materials with only black ink over the past weeks of doing these drawings. My appreciation for the medium has grown a lot!

coalwhite was gracious enough to write another fantastic vignette for this drawing. It's awesome! Here it is:

Boom. The ground shook under her feet but she hadn’t taken a step. Her brown eyes were focused on the waves crashing against the sea wall. Boom. Another ripple immediately followed the earth shake, closer to shore this time. Whatever was coming didn’t care that she was there, ready to protect the city.

The people had been evacuated at the first, early warning. It was routine at this point. They knew what to do. They were still scared, sure, but they weren’t panicked. Not once they saw her crest the horizon and use a cleared street to place herself between them and the incoming threat.

Boom. It was close now. Something broke the surface of the waves, cresting out of them like a shark fin, only far more dangerous. Boom. More of its ugly face appeared above the water. She frowned. Ugly was an understatement, a kind word for this creature.

Yet more of its body broke the water line. A sneer curled her lip. Alright then. She danced lightly back and forth, shifting from foot to foot. Show time.
