Description
The alert had gone out just before dusk after something tripped the sensors just off-shore. Lioness was on site in short order, and the giant and the beast had a brief exchange of blows before the monster retreated back into the water. Sensors said it was still there, prowling the coast, waiting. She'd stay through the night, ready to finish the job. This piece stands out for a number of reasons. Most prominently, it's the first time I've ever painted my girlfriend and had her model for a fully realized piece. I think that deep connection between us has given this painting a special vibe that's hard to pin down precisely.
This piece is the first real portrait I've done for Vigilant Lioness; almost all of the other pieces thus far, save the very first one, have featured three-quarter or full body views of the figure, so this is a new departure. I also used a palette knife for the first time in a long time. I scraped in the city lights in the distance, and in general tried to play up the texture throughout.
I'm feeling pretty good about how this turned out, the buildings and billboard especially, and I'll definitely be applying what I learned to my other works in progress. Stay tuned!

Glad to see you continuing this series. I appreciate the variety of perspectives used. It must keep it more interesting for you as an artist.
It looks like the Lioness got the better of the exchange (no apparent injuries). Perhaps adding bruised knuckles would add to the sense of the amount of punishment she dished out earlier.

Thank you! Vigilant Lioness is my main artistic focus- it just takes longer than I'd like to produce new paintings sometimes!
Keeping things fresh is definitely important to me. I don't want to repeat myself or become stale, you know? The subject matter isn't changing much, so I've got to find other ways to change things up with each piece.
That's not a bad idea! I might need to look into doing a portrait of a battle-scarred fighter sometime. Thanks!

Working with real world media must take longer.
Would be exciting to see something from a citizen's point of view like from a balcony or elevated highway.
I thought of that since some of your other works showed a bloody lip (?).

Traditional media definitely takes longer for me, especially since the paintings are usually quite large!
I've actually got a piece in the works of a view from the street, believe it or not. The giant is kneeling and setting down some civilians she saved. I'm really excited about it!
The second one I ever did does have a bloody lip and knuckles. You've got a great memory!

Impressive! I like the way how you dealt with lights.
Oil paintings in GTS community is surely rare, but it works really good, as we can see. Keep up doing wonderful work!
