Description Her heart was booming in her chest as the fire washed over her legs. She could feel the heat, no question, and even see the fact of its presence in the blackened cars and melted storefronts at her feet. But it didn't hurt as she waded through it. Not even a little.

She'd previously undergone the transformation to run drills and training exercises, but it wasn't the same as actually being called into service. The Director had warned her that the process of ascending changed the very core of her being; still, it was a shock to find that something so fundamental as being burned by flame no longer held true for her.

It was with a morbid excitement then, full of adrenaline, that she stared down the burning boulevard at the monstrous colossus rampaging through the city. The thing she'd been sent to vanquish, and the only thing that could harm her.

This was a blast to make! At 9 x 12 inches, this is the smallest I've painted in years (I made a few 8 x 11 studies in college), and it was really refreshing. I'm really pleased with the way the dual lighting scheme worked out. The fire feels bright and hot, and I think I achieved a nice realism in the way the blue artificial light mixes with the orange and yellows to create green transitions. My favorite area of this painting is that left arm though. It just radiates power!

I'm very excited to announce that this piece will be available to purchase exclusively through Every Day Original this Thursday, December 26th at 10:30 AM Eastern! I love the little snippets of info that you include. I can imagen the director and other heads giving lectures and briefings to their agents in a big XCOM style command center.

The building was unmarred at that point of contact in the finished piece then. Sure the rest of everything is on fire but still.

I like the light sources mixing but I may have missed it - where is the artificial blue light coming from? Helicopters above?

The snippet of writing that goes with the piece is also interesting. So they possibly call the process "ascending?" And she is enjoying it on some level, I wonder if the other members feel similar when deployed compared to basic training.
Much like the previous, she exudes confidence with her stride and clenched fist. Though she is a neophyte to engagements if she thinks the monster is the only thing that can harm her. Words can kill.

Exactly yeah, I'm thinking there's a helicopter close behind lighting up the scene. Maybe it's a news chopper filming the fight live? That'd make for an interesting painting next time!

I'm still playing around with the official term for their transformation process, but I do think ascending has a nice ring to it! And I'm sure it's a different experience for every fighter- I'm sure there's some who are more serious and don't take any pleasure from it. Others are sick with nerves, probably! Especially if it's their first fight!
