I truly love this piece, partly because I'm into theatre and nostalgia, but also because it's beautiful in a very sad way. I almost feel that an angle on this photograph would have made it seem more artistic, but I like the head-on shot because it seems as if the actor is taking the picture looking out from the stage. I love the dirt and scraps on the floor. The lighting is also very powerful, because not only is it pale and makes the setting glow, but it also seems to add to the "wrongness." Shows are mostly performed at night, when it's dark and the street lights are on. The theatre is empty, the audience has left, and there will be no show tonight. Excellent, excellent work! Brava!

While I love this shot, the front piano looks superimposed on this photo, in a way. The color sceme is rustic, and the broken-down feel is impactful, but the piano is eye-catching in a way that probably wasn't intended. Love the one open chair in the front, and the half-open, too! The left side of the shot has a window with a lader, and that was a tad out of place looking, but it helps the photo. I think it's not a very balanced photo due to the "action" perse being on the left, but that adds to the charm, in a way.

Fabulous job, overall!

Absolutely brilliant. There are no problems, mistakes, anything wrong with this deviantart. Well for nit picks, the piano in the front laying on top of the chairs seems like it's hovering and seems out of size. I know that is confusing but it seems like a mini piano hovering is a way to say . But none the less, AWSOME!!!!! It is well done. The detail, done wonderfully, is absolutely amazing. Every viewable spec of dirt is seen, every bit of destruction is also able to be seen. But again, none the less, THE SHOW MUST GO ON! IT CAN NEVER END!

I like this photo a lot... But that piano looks really out of place. Enough to bother me..... If you had the chance I would have used a hammer and broke the chairs around it. It almost looks photoshopped in. That and it has 0 shadows near the the piano. I love that one seat down. Out of all the seats it is just that one. Also I would have like to see a vignette and give it a vintage look. And maybe run around and make the dust fly everywhere and it would would show the light coming in near the windows. But I lOVE this photo and the impact! Just LOVE it!!!

I would be worried that taking a hammer to it or photoshopping in a drop-shadow would be counter to the spirit of urban exploration -- that is, capturing stuff like this exactly as it is in the world.

I didn't notice it before... but it does look photoshopped in. that's going to bug me now

I mean don't get me wrong I love the photo. But it bothers me. Even if it isn't photoshopped I would go into photoshop and add a drop shadow. Nothing harsh but to make it look normal. It looks like it is floating there and doesn't belong there. I am a professional photographer and this is just what I noticed the first 5 seconds. Here I see a HUGE object and BAM! No shadows. Some people might not have noticed it but that is bothering me. And I am sorry people if I seem harsh but he wants a critique. Not an ass kissing saying how it is flawless and how it is perfect. I am not bashing I am telling the truth. Some people can handle it. Others can't.

It's ok!! XD We know you are just critiquing. No need to get on the defensive.

Matthias-Haker In reply to Photographer5D [2013-03-27 10:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, i can handle it
If you look closely, there cannot be a shadow actually. the only drop shadow the piano creates is covered by itself. There is just no visible dropshadow in the RAWs and creating one afterwards didn't make sense to me.

Because of the light via the double aspect windows there can be no shadows cast except for downcast onto the chairs below it - I see 3 chairs that have the shadow. The interior of the piano also has bounce-off shadows and light.

This piece is very, very beautiful.
I'm a fan of urbex myself and this might be one of the most stunning pictures that I've ever seen.
When people ask me why I love abandoned and decayed stuff, I'll show them this picture, next time. You really captured all the alternative beauty of this theme, it looks like a scenery from a dream. The light is beautiful, as well the atmosphere you created. Even tough urban decay is a sad and a "desperate" beauty, it looks so peaceful and majestic.
This represents why people do urban exploration so much. Is to find this type of thing. What a marvelous location.

Others have been down on the piano, but for me, I feel like the piano really makes this shot. Β It tells a story and asks more questions than it answers. Β How the heck did it get there? Β We just have to wonder. Β It also fits perfectly with the title. Β Love it.

Why can't there be amazing places like this in America?! I've never even seen anything close to this, let alone got to explore it like you! The closest thing to your places I've ever found was an abandoned outhouse.

Might I use a couple of yours ...with total credit given onthe piece to the photographer. Thank you, Richard (usersmind)

At first I wondered why the piano was on the chairs - and then I had the thought ... it's as if time has thrown it there in anguish at the music being lost. Beautifully sad.
