Description In 1920, during the Greco-Turkish war, a greek nationalist from Trebizond, Loukas Raptides, shot the then president of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. After his assassination Turkey fell into Cahos, the Kuva-yi Inzibatiye quickly managed to capture Ankara, Mehmed VI signed shortly after the Treaty of Nicosia, ceding to Greece most of western Anatolia. Istambul, from then on known as Costantinople, was once again the seat of a Greek government.
During the second world war Italy, counting on both Bulgarian and Turkish aid, launched an invasion of Greece, while the invasion succeded at first the Greeks managed to resist in certain areas, Germany was forced to intervene. Nevertheless Axis forces were never able to suppress partisan groups. In order to regain nation's trust, after the tiring campaign in Greece and Yugoslavia, German leadership launched an invasion of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, in order to do this operation Barbarossa was postponed to 1942. When it was finally launched the Soviet Union had already recovered from the Winter War, nevertheless Germany conquered enormous quantity of land (including Leningrad); Transcaucasia, from which Russia took most of his oil supply was partially occupied by joint Italo-Turkish forces. The Eastern Front, with his thirty-five million casualties, was alone the bloodiest conflict in human history. A turning point in the conflict was the capitulation of Finland, Sweden, fearing of being sorrounded by the Soviets, that had already liberated some territories in northern Norway, declared war on Germany. Anglo-Americans troops landed in Bergen, Norway and Denmark were rapidly liberated. With allied troops few kilometers north of Berlin, several german generals organized a coup and deposed Hitler, on January 13th 1945 Germany uncondiotionally surrended. After the Nuremberg Process Hitler, Mussolini and many others were executed. Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland were established as sovereign states; the remaining part of Germany was split into a dictatorship in the east and a democracy in the west, the respective capitals were Berlin and Hamburg. Italian horn of Africa was annexed by the united kingdom, Hailé Selassié was restored as Emperor of Abyssinia in the newly created Protectorate of Ethiopia. Although Italy was allowed to retain most of Lybia, it had to cede some minor territories to France, Austria, Yugoslavia and Switzerland. After Japanese surrender in 1946 Japan lost all of his territories in continental Asia, Hirohito was forced to abdicate and was replaced by the, then twelve years old, Emperor Heisei. As it was decided during the Lodz conference Inner Mongolia was annex by the Mongolia People's Republic while Manchuria, Korea and Xinjiang became soviet puppet states. Although China was assigned to the American sphere of influence Mao Tse-tung decided to continue his effort to take over china. While the civil war rages, most of southern China was conquered by the New Quanxi Clique; with CIA support Li Zongren succesfully killed the anti-western Bai Chongxi, remaining as the sole leader of the Quanxi Clique. In 1949 Li Zongren proclaimed the restoration of the Chinese Empire, under a puppet emperor; China was finally unified under the new Xiong Dinasty, Shangai was chosen as the new capital. After Li Zongren's death China became a parliamentary monarchy inspired by the United Kingdom. In the same year the British Raj, de facto self governing since 1943, declared his independence; the power remained in the indian parliament that was elected by local nobles, only in 1987 voting right was extended to every indian citizen. In 1952 the Soviet Union and his puppets created the Communist International Organization, the next year, in response to CIO western Europe, eastern and southern Asia the US founded the Mutual Self-Defense Treaty Organization. Since both Iran and Afghanistan joined MSDTO the main objective of the Soviet Union was to get an ally outside MSDTO "encirclemet".
In 1958 Egypt and Syria united to create the United Arab Republic, at the same time Jordan and Iraq united into the Arab Federation, since Syria was going to withdraw from the UAR Nasser proposed to the king of Iraq the plan to create the United Arab Federation, king Faysal II was going to be the new head of state, while Nasser, as prime minister, reserved for himself the political power. They imposed their will on the king of Jordan, who was forced to accept, because of this in Jordan there was for a long time a strong desire for independence. In 1959, after Lebanon joined the UAF, Nasser signed the Tel Aviv agreement with Israel: both states decided to sign a non-agression pact, recognized each other and gave up claim on other's territories; the next year the UAF recognized Jerusalem as part of Israel, in return Israel moved his capital to Tel Aviv; although Nasser did this in order to not appear as a threat to the West the population in the UAF extremely opposed the agreement. In 1961 Nasser was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for having brought peace to the middle east; a few weeks later in order to gain opinion Nasser invaded Kuwait, this however escalated into a war with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. For the first time noble peace prize was revoked and Nasser was forced to resign; the UAF gave back many occupied territories, in exchange for that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar recognized the annexation of Kuwait and removed the world "Arabia" from their official names.
In 1963 the CIO evolved into an economic union, adopting rubles as their common currency, this, however, was not enough to solve the economic crisis the soviet block was experiencing.
In response to that MSDTO adopted too a single currency, no-tariff commerce and free travel [similar to the European Union OTL], since being a democracy was a requirement to apply many quasi-democratic regimes in America and Africa became actual democracy.
Meanwhile discontent rose in the soviet block, in 1965 East Germany united with their western counterpart, the following year Albania, Bulgaria and Korea left the CIO. In 1966 Leonid Breznev was deposed by a coup organized by the Red Army, the new government rapidly reformed the Soviet Union into a capitalistic country, the country's official name was changed to Russian Confederation. This reform caused many protests around the country, in the chaos of the dissolving CIO Romania managed to annex the Moldavian SSR, transnistria however rejoined Russia. By 1967 the only ex-CIO country that didn't join the MSDTO was Jugoslavia, involved in a civil war. During the civil war Albania, Romania and Hungary seized some territories, while Italy and Bulgaria created puppet states in border territories. In the end the remaining Jugoslavia split into three country: Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro.
Three years later South Africa signed a peace treaty with Namibia and after abolishing, under MSDTO pressure, Apartheid (together with their puppet state Rhodesia) joined the MSDTO. No other war fight to this day.
