Description Its a gun/sword weapon designed for the weapon guilds fantacy weapon contest....... I joinned to get competative.....

Due to my extensive knowledge of weapons, this design is completely mechanicaly feasible. Chambered for a magnum sized pistol round it would prove quite deadly at close/medium distances. Three of my personal favs are the .357mag, .460, and .500 S&W mag. 20-40 rounds fed from an internal spring loaded double stack magazine. It uses a short gas delay blowback action casings are expelled at the top. Due to the weight of the blade, it should be fairly controllable fired with one hand but would be heavy and require two hands to weild as a sword.

nice!
like a modern-age version of the blade-pistols my [link] carries.Tho this one seems to be mainly a blade with incorporated gun than the other way around. That one's a long barreled pistol with underlining blade.Augtha post a full version of the weapons one day...

Well, I know a thing or two about weapons... hope you don't mind constructive critique

Incorporating the pistol into the hilt would prove to be a challenge for all but the masters of weapons-craft, you'd have to compensate for the weight ratio as the blade will not behave like a normal sword, the hilt itself would bolster most of the weight and would throw out the balance characteristics, the only real advantage would be if the weapon was built as a dagger, not a sword.

Folding steel/iron is one thing, but building it to be able to fit around the mechanism of the weapon would be the largest obstacle as obviously you cant fit a hammer into that section, meaning that part would have to be pressed, rendering it a weak-spot from the rest of the tempered material as well as not being able to simply bolt the base of the blade to the handle which would break either part due to the different compositions of material whilst using it in battle; basic metallurgy...

Another factor would be the weapon would become unwieldy as you fire the weapon, discarding weight from the ejecting ammunition. One last point is that if used to block or attack, the clip is mostly exposed to impact and I would not reccomend you using it as a handle or wrist-guard, an improvement suggestion would be to build up a larger section to house the clip, not just a covering guard. Overall I would say this would be best suited to a thrusting style of use, using arcs would force the user to change and adapt to the weapon's use.

My apologies for nit-picking, I like the Gunblade idea, as someone mentioned it is reminiscent of the Final Fantasy Weapon called the gunblade, though I think your idea is alot more feasable as the blade on those weapons were over five foot long, basically imagine a huge buster-like blade on the end of a magnum revolver...

I dont mind some critique...but keep in mind this is a "fantasy weapon"..... Which is why I was issued an M-4 instead of one of these things.....
You seem to be able to point out problems well.....but Im sure there are compromising solutions to all of them....such as for the hammer....dont need one at all if you use a striker firing mechanism..... Counter balances...re-enforcing frames....some creative engeneering.....Im still confidant in the design....after all, it is just a straight handled magnum carbine with a really big bayonet...lol.....

that was my opinion more of a dagger/dirk/bayonet... the only real issue was that you mentioned it as a sword/sabre, but as a short bladed weapon I wouldn't mind one

Yeah thats what people keep telling me...but I've never played any Final Fantacy game...ever..... so I dont know what their talking about.... Estimated weight would be 15lbs....using plastic resins and titanium as well as other alloys..... "Yeah I've put thought into it......"

I recommend against the use of Titanuim in a blade-based weapon, so long as that surface is not intended to be used as a striking/blocking piece... Titanium is light, strong yet can be surprisingly brittle under extreme shock...

Sweetness! Awesome job buddy! I love it when the concept isn't so complicated that it can no longer "actually work".
