Description
This piece is a vessel type form that resembles a natural almost floral form. The spiral tip represents the spiral we see in nature all around us, the "golden spiral". I have always been impressed with the greatest work of art ever created, nature and the universe that extends from it. A little too philosophic/cliche but whatever...Dimensions approx
11" x 8" x 8.5"

Very nice! The shape and color make me think of a stylized flame!

although it has already been said i love how bold the red is. The contrast with the black just makes it have a glow effect. A wonderful sculpture to say the least, very well put together and i would say perfectly glazed. Thumbs up to you

Cheers! I wish I could glaze it one more time with another clear glaze to make it pop a little more. But alas I sold this piece and no longer know where it is...

Yeah I like it too, but I was an idiot and sold it for really cheap because I was desperate to make some money. I sold it only for US$50, I hated myself afterward.... I kinda want to make more.

You should totally make more. If I weren't in a situation where it would be the worst idea ever to buy something like this, I would buy one.

the photo itself is art. I love the lines and flow of the sculpture. It reminds me of so many things.

The shape is awesome. I think your philosophical reasoning for doing it only enhances the appeal it has.

an artist can never be too philisophical - one of the things I've learned through art school. lol
I love the form, it really is beautiful and eyecatching, the colors also work perfectly together.

Yes all of my sculptures are mostly clay, if not all clay. Thanks!

It is a gorgeous shape. The drop almost reminds me of a stylized blood drop or rose petal. I like how the inner color becomes the outer at the end of the curve.

Thanks! I was thinking of a rain drop/floral shape but also a mix of the golden spiral concept, where you see it everywhere in nature. Never thought of it as a blood drop. I am always amazed when you can look at your own work in new ways almost everyday!

I got the spiral, confused a teacher once by trying a poem on the concept But that striking red reminded me of forensics in the thumbnail!

Yes I love the red too, but its too bad its commercial glaze. I wish I got it from my own glaze in a reduction firing. Maybe the next one...

there is no shame in a commercial glaze! have you ever seen a painter berate himself for using pigments he didn't grind???? Great work!

Thanks... I guess I have never thought of it that way. Although I love when I can get a similar result using my own recipe. Nothing like making it from scratch.

they each have their own appeal with successful applications/ context! i guess part of the problem with ready-made material is the stigma with its use for hobby art. it doesn't have to be that way. it's totally in how it's applied and mastered. i think it really works with this piece. reduction red would also be nice but would be a different finish. a different sensibility.
