Yes, he was in a fighting stance rigth before he got struck by Lavos' light.
This is that moment he is obliterated, when we can see the shinning pendant leaving his hands.
I think it is also the same position he is frozen when they replace him with a doll.
I thought this pose would look more like he was being kinda crucified when he died!
