Do you mean Gnomes?
Dwarves are much too heavy to stand on a leaf.

No I did mean dwarf. In my fantasy realm of this book there are dwarf of almost speck like proportions.

why would you alter something already in a state of perfection?

mattwatier In reply to Lolip [2011-03-28 18:15:00 +0000 UTC]
LOL because I don't believe in perfection and I like putting twist on things. I know it pisses some people off(Mostly D&D players who don't know where these creatures originated in human folktales) but it also inspires others to think out side of the box. So they are Dwarfs and here is my thinking. A Dwarf is a being that dwells in mountains and in the earth, and is associated with wisdom, smith-ing, mining, and crafting. I used dwarfs because they are crafty and mechanically inclined(Mythological) Gnomes are not inventors but rather land spirits(Mythological) so gnomes wouldn't work with the neo-myth that the painting is illustrating. Which is about a species of creatures that was hired to paint all the leaves in a few weeks. And they were successful because they invented ways of doing it(ladders, pulleys, helicopters, etc...)

You are just mixing them then. Why not call them something original.
And I was referring to mythological dwarves. From Norse mythology dwarves were violent bastard smiths made of earth.
If you aren't going to use the traditional characteristics why not name it something original? Or are you trying to step on toes?

its not the art.
its the thought that went in the art that makes it special.

This is so cute! It brings me back to childhood, where I read a story about how faries and dwarfs would paint the leafs for fall and spring, while Jack frost painted all the frost.
