the "copy" might be 60's, but the design strikes me as more "post War" (the New 49's) or 50-53 group (sans the chrome bling). either way, i'd LOVE to see this take on the Constitution class as a 3d model

mattwileyart In reply to Sniffs [2010-06-03 22:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Actually the body and the warp engines take elements from a mid 1960s muscle car and the torpedo bay is from a late 50s tailfin.
But all those cars from those years have great elements.
My brother is currently working on a playable 3D model (For Star Trek Bridge Commander), whenever I get around to getting him elevations.

YEEEEEEESS!!!

I'm a BC modder myself. I mostly repair hardpoints and poor textures, but I'm in the middle of a ship pack.

now, if I could figure out 3D programs better, I'd be all set.

That's just wonderful If they advertised the Enterprise in 1960s National Geographics, that would be the advert

Caught this on tumblr today and it's really fantastic! The copy is particularly spot onβ€”I study advertising of the period as part of my workβ€”as is the imagery, obviously.

You say it's the first of a seriesβ€”have there been more? I'll definitely follow as I'm curious!

There's another in my gallery called "Rura Penthe", it re-envisions the frozen Klingon Prison Planet as a vintage ski resort. The other designs are still in production.

What tumblr site linked you over here?

Did you see the bigger version? More of the detail is visible.

mattwileyart In reply to NCC-2357 [2010-01-07 04:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I am planning to set this up as a print through my own site.
It would be 24" x 36" on glossy stock (printed at Kinkos) and in varying smaller sizes. There's a lot more detail visible at that size, I have one hanging in my living room.
I don't know the price yet, do you want me to notify you when I figure that stuff out? I saved your page to my email.

I'm attempting to work out something with CBS right now so I can legally sell it.
Even though this is a parody, the actual shape of the hull they copyrighted too.
Which is understandable, it is a distinctive shape.

OOoooooohhhhh is this so Khoool !!
YOU should have been on pre-production concepts for the last movie's Enterprise design.
OH! I just love those warp nacelles!!

This just really works!!!
All foolin' aside, this could have been, should have been -the basis of their "so-called" revision.
Instead of the heavy detail look - go back to simplicity and smooth hulls, very few tech detail.
Wow.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mattwileyart In reply to Fastmax [2009-12-13 06:30:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! And also considering they were adding a dash (or dollop) of Star Wars to revamped Trek, this design would fit in very well with the sleek muscle car aesthetic of Episode 1's Naboo Starfighter. Even if you were as heavily disappointed with Episode 1 as I was, you can still appreciate the design of that ship.

There's also a few details on my site, the link is in the description.

Fastmax In reply to mattwileyart [2009-12-13 17:06:50 +0000 UTC]

Star Wars is after all is mostly "eyecandy".
Knew that from May 25 1977.

Say,.. I got a guy here on DA, a "Galen82",.. I brought up to him the idea of contacting ST illustrator John Eaves, about Galen82's illo of "USS Cadence Wallpaper".
Another great fan starship design, check it out.

But about John Eaves,... asking if you know of anyway to contact him. Only asking you cause I'm looking at both your note responses to me at the same time.

Any sort of directory of Hollywood pre-production artisan one can look up any place??

By the way, you yourself are a comic artist??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mattwileyart In reply to Fastmax [2009-12-13 17:41:14 +0000 UTC]

My brother's a big fan of John Eaves. I think the easiest way to contact him would be through his Wordpress account here

I've been doing webcomics and freelance design and illustration work for 4 years and now I work as a Graphic Designer / sometimes architect / sometimes web designer at a company that designs museum exhibits and full scale animal models. [link]

Fastmax In reply to mattwileyart [2009-12-13 20:44:29 +0000 UTC]

Did you pass that J. Eaves link to Galen82?
He's probably scared now! Ha!

Gee, BIG THANKS from me about Eaves. He revived starship design with creating Ent E. He, like us, "worships" Classic Ent design.
Again, thanks and good fortune to you, Matt.
